My ear is so full of wax that I am almost totally deaf in it. Any suggestions as to how to get it out quickly and effectively without having to wait a month to see my GP?

pour some olive oil into your ear off a tea spoon or pippett, lie on your side for 10 mins. Do not put any cotton wool or tissue in the ear, as this will just absorb the oil back out of the ear. You can use some tissue to catch any residual oil when you sit back up. Do this twice a day for up to 10 days and this should loosen the wax enough for it to come out on its own. If you are prone to wax build up, you can do this once or twice a week to keep the wax soft when your currrent problem is sorted. Never put anything else into your ears, as all you are doing is actually pushing the wax deeper into the ear canal.

The best way to get rid of earwax is have your doctor remove it. There are over the counter wax removing/dissolving eardrops out there, but if you or your family has tubes in the ears, has had ear surgery, or are prone to frequent ear infections ask a doctor. I cannot use any OTC eardrops.
The best bit of advice... NEVER put any object in the ear. If you place anything in the ear canal, you risk pushing the wax farther down into the ear canal, causing the earwax to become impacted. Impacted earwax can be painful because of nerves in the lining of the ear canal. The ear is a sensitive organ. You also risk perforating the eardrum. Impacted cerumen (earwax) will need to be removed by an ear, nose, and throat specialist, which is NOT fun.
Cerumen is produced to protect the structures of the middle and inner ear from dust, airborne particles, allergens, and microorganisms. I also had a doctor tell me that people with allergies tend to develop excessive earwax as an allergic response.
I would talk to a pharmacist about using the over the counter eardrops if you have any questions. Personally, I would wait for the doctor, but a month is a long time to wait for a GP! Being half deaf for a month will drive others just as crazy as it will you! :)

Everyday in the shower , let the warm water run in your ear oh couple a minutes then while letting run in the other ear , tilt your head completely side ways , place your index finger right in front of your ear and kind just jiggle your finger to help the water come out as much as possible,it will help soften it for a while each day you'll need to take a rag and or a cue tip if you do it right don't put it down in your ear but just around the edges and eventually it will work and for added benefit you could use the olive oil warmed just after your shower and that might even help it along.
Too your Dr. can clean for you, and make sure it is not fluid built up in your inner ear.

put some olive oil into the ear (just a couple of drops) and then lay on you side with the affected ear up, for about 15 minutes. Do that every day for a couple of weeks and it will soften the wax and eventually the wax will work it's way out. If not, then when you do get into see the Dr. it will be soft enough for him or her to syringe out. Good Luck!

Olive Oil, a couple of drops in the affected ear at night, use a cotton ball to block off the canal. After a few nights the wax will start to come out.

You can buy Otex from the chemist that will get rid of it for you, its made up of Hydrogen Urea and will break down the wax over time.
Or you could use warmed olive oil, you warm it by warming a tea spoon under a tap and then placing the oil on it, but that can be tricky if you are alone, trying to get it into your ear.
Otex is best I have found.

Why yes of course - My grandmother has this problem and I prefer to suck it out with a straw. My grandfather holds her down while I suck. Use a short straw so that you get the full suction - roll it round the tongue and then spit into a container where you can retreive it later. when you have a sizeable amount just use it as you would blue-tack. Problem solved.

Go to the local homeopathic store in your area and get those tubes that suck the wax out- they are like candles, you light the tips and they suck the wax out
