You could use a good antihistamine cream and pills to stop the itching.
You now have to treat the animal that has the fleas and the whole house from top to bottom, including carpets and bedding.
You can buy treatments from a Vet or some supermarkets

get any pets treated there are good tablets and drops at pet stores and vets.
Spray your whole house with a flea killing spray the best ones are about £15 from the vets.
Then steam clean everything in sight.
To stop pets itching I found 'Tea tree skin calm' excellent and dabbed tea tree oil on my bites.
It took a couple of weeks to get rid of the blighters in my place and I just use pet flea drops for my pets now.
good luck.
If the fleas are human fleas which is uncommon then phone your doctor.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Another simple thing to do to help not get anymore bites on your ankles is to wear thick white gym socks (I wore my husbands). The fleas can't penetrate the thick material of the socks and you won't be constantly itching or scratching.
Also, keep a roll of scotch tape nearby. When you see a flea jump on your white socks, get the tape and stick it to them.
Everything else the above answerers said is correct. I just thought this might help you too.

Well for one you cant just treat your dog and its over! you need to do alot of things, If its that bad then fumeigate the house, and treat the dog/cat at the same time, dont let the dog/cat in the house for at least 3-4 days (it could harm the dog/cat) also treat the animal with tick as this will also be a main problem also with mange, and you will need to feed the dog alot of vitamins as if the problem is bad then he would be getting sick by the day, i am a vet and know this is the best result!
*Hope this helped*
