My bother has recently informed me and my family that he will be soon joining his 3rd armored cavalry division again in Iraq for his 3rd tour of duty. My loyalty is with him, but his reasoning is, " So that I will bring others back who may have never had a chance." I find that I would like to join the Army, but he has asked that I not to go, what do you think about him and i have respected his wishes?

I think that your brother (like my husband and his late brother-Marines) is someone to be proud of. He knows why he joined and why he is going. You must decide that for yourself-and including respect to your brother's thoughts on the issue-he's an opinion from the "inside" who cares for you.. I also think the next 6 months changes in, and decisions concerning, our forces and stay in Iraq will help you to know what to do. Serving in defense of a country that you respect (even if not all its decisions-we are not perfect but still one of the best),that educated, protected and gave you the chance at personal and working freedoms like no where else-well, I think its justified and heroic. It must be your choice however, and perhaps you may find a different route to aid others, yourself and your country than he did. Like all important decisions-let it come to you. You'll know. Good luck to you and to him-send him our respects.

Army Sgt. with two tours in Iraq. I have mixed feelings about why we are there, and the direction the war is going. I question if this war is justified or not. But under the oath i took and as an American i must stand by my brothers regardless of my personal feelings and i will continue to do so. If i am ordered back to Iraq i will gladly go.
You need to do some serious soul searching and ask yourself if you can do the same. If you are ordered into some duty you dont fully agree with can you stand by your oath and do your job still. If you dont think you can then you probably shouldnt enlist.

I just got back from Iraq and I tell my nieces who are interested in the military to wait and see where things will go. If you join and want to get out in 4 yrs they can still call you back up because you actually sign up for 8 years..4 active 4 inactive. Also if there is a war going on and you are supposed to get out they can keep you in against your will. The military is a very big decision now days think about it and listen to your brother...he knows

First, you'll have to pass the ASVAB, it contains "paragraph comprehension" which you're lacking in.

It's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. No division anywhere in there.

If you want to join the Army, don't let anyone drag you down...

"Freedom" is an elusive carrot on a stick dangled by our leaders for their personal political and economic gains!

True freedom lays within exercising our LIBERTY to make informed choices with our lives, rather than killing or being killed out of knee-jerk nationalism!

When you are in the service and in combat its not so much that you are fighting for our belifes you are there to protect your pals you may have gone over with different belifes but in the end result you become your brothers keeper. And it takes hold of you and you become that. His belifes are strong God bless him and keep him out of harms way.
