I believe the "aroma" of a draft is brewing right under our noses. With the White House determined to safeguard oil interests in Iraq, there really can be no doubt that troop levels will be kept high, and at any cost or political consequence.

Not for just 20,000 more troops. That will bring our level back up to 150,000 in Iraq. We have been there before several times. Since the war started we have bounced up and down in between 130,000 to 150,000 over and over, it never seemed to be enough. Why they think jumping back up to 150,000 again is gonna make the difference this time baffles me.
There wont be a draft....UNLESS
Something breaks out elsewhere. Iran, Syria, North Korea. Something else happens and we really wont have much of a choice but to draft.
BTW, to the guy above me...Bob. Democrats cowardly? I have been to Iraq 2 times, will probably be heading back again. How about you? By the way, i am a strong democrat. I have never voted republican.

That's gonna be a really hard sell in congress. If you think people are angry about Iraq, they will be livid about a draft to take young Americans and toss them in Bush's meat grinder. And now will women have to register? Any attempt to institute the resumption of the draft will be lost in court for countless years. And if you think the draft dodgers in the '60s were a problem, these days, it will be totally out of hand.

Enough about the draft. Charles Rangle (D-NY) is the only one who wants it. There will not be a draft. We do not need a draft. We could support 200,000 troops and not need a draft. It will not happen. Quit trying to scare people. And Oil. Please. More scare tactics. I thought Al Gore wanted $5.00/gallon gasoline?? High gas prices will save the environment from all the mean people that drive cars or have the nerve to heat thier home.

No way would draftees perform as effectively as volunteers. There is no reason to upset the whole nation by instituting and a draft and then end up with a less effective armed forces.

Holy crap.
The ONLY person who has brought up draft legislation is Charlie Wrangel (D, NY). So if you're worried about it, write your new Democratic leaders and tell them so.
Republicans have not made ANY attempt to initiate a draft.
Thanks for playing.

THE DEMS WANTED THE DRAFT TAKEN AWAY AFTER VIETNAM AND GOT THEIR WAY. NOW THEY WANT TO BRING IT BACK. I WISH THEY WOULD MAKE UP THEIR FRIGGIN MINDS. YOU CAN BE ANTI MILITARY ALL YOU WANT. ITS SIMILAR TO THE DIALOG IN A JAMES WOOD POLICE THRILLER MOVIE RECENTLY. YA DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM UNTIL YOU REALLY NEED EM AND THEN THEY ALL OF A SUDDEN LOOK LIKE THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST!! WE HAVE ABOUT HALF THE FORCES WE REALLY NEED BUT NOBODY WANTS TO PAY THE BILL. GUESS IT DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH TIME YOU HAVE BETWEEN THE TIME YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A REAL PROBLEM AND THE TIME YOU NEED TO BE ON THE FIELD OF BATTLE. BETTER TO HAVE AND NOT NEED THEN NEED AND NOT HAVE.
