No-one knows the answers to these questions. That's the honest truth.
Many people seem convinced that "god" answers these questions, but it is a matter of fact that god does not. God may exist, but god does nothing whatsoever to explain the existence of the universe.

"If something came out of nothing, which seems impossible unless you believe in God"
Nonsense. It either can or it can't. Believing in God doesn't change the rules.
The point is that I don't know and neither do you. Saying God made the Universe only moves the real question back a step. It really doesn't answer anything. You are perfectly willing to say god was always here, but you won't take the simpler explanation that the universe was. You add a step with NO EVIDENCE and that isn't logical at all.

Ok so this question is essentially flaws because you are using the wrong definition for eternity. Eternity, in its true definition, is the complete and total existence of all time and life. Meaning that it does not just last forever, but also contains past, present, and future all at the same time. If it did not, it would be just like the present, losing the past, and not yet gaining the future. So if you imagine eternity as being a present state, you could imagine time being added to eternity because the future will happen, but this is asburd. That is like imagining infinity, plus another number, which doesn't make sense. If infinity is the highest number, there would be no point in adding to it, so if eterntiy is the complete amount of time, it could not have a future, so eternity would have to include our future.
In other words, eternity is a principle we can reasonably imagine, and the world exists in the present, progresses into the future, and having lost the past. So your question becomes invalid, because we can exist, progressing from past to future while living in the present, while the concept of eternity is always watching over us, so to speak, because it contains all our time differentials in one complete existence.

I think that mixing religion with cosmology is a bad idea. One is a belief system, the other is a science.
To answer your question, I ascribe to the theory that the universe is infinite, and has always existed. This would be the position that the universe had no beginning, and it's a bit difficult to wrap your head around that. The amount of time that had to elapse to get us to where we are is about 4.5 billion years.
I believe that God is a concept that Man came up with to explain what could not be understood, and that this is what God continues to be. The more things that are explained by science, the fewer people that attribute those things to God.

you're making one implicit assumption, that the "universe" did not exist earlier the great Bang, that it exchange into "brought about". All we've desperate is that what exchange into to alter into the universe exchange into restricted to a singularity, so dense that area, time and the organic residences of remember and ability have been indistinguishable and meaningless. theory and test are proving that element isn't an objectively ticking clock yet is undertaking to its spatial and quantum ability context. If each thing is all one element, multi functional element, there is no exchange and for this reason no time. Any deviation from that state is a ramification of time (and area) into physcal certainty. So we went from a dimensionless universe to a multi-dimensioned universe, introducing time, area and the particular residences of remember/ability. yet each thing already existed and continually does exist, in one form or yet another. The Bang is merely the temporally pointy end of a universe that usually exists. No "reason" is needed, purely exchange. "Explosion" is a deceptive term. The Bang exchange into not something like a chemical reaction. however the analogy is clever. speedy strengthen isn't the "advent" of something, purely rearrangement by exchange of state. An explosion would contain conversion of chemical ability to warmth ability, or conversion of a sturdy or liquid to a gas with a intense vapor rigidity. We experience it as some thing appearing out of nowhere, yet each erg and atom exchange into already modern-day earlier the reaction began. in addition, each thing interior the increasing universe exchange into already modern-day on the element while strengthen began. we can't say it existed "earlier" purely simply by fact "earlier" has no which potential in an unexpanded universe. that's continually existent.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
John 1:3
There has to be a God. Time does exist, otherwise past won't be past and future won't be future. God exist outside of time, therefore he has no beginning or end. Universe exist within time, therefore it has a beginning and an end.

There are many theories out there. No one knows the answer. Religion is humankind's attempt to explain that which cannot be explained. God, Gods, Goddesses or whatever you conceive the creator to be cannot be proved and has no explanation, so we have many different religions to help us relate with Deity.

There are questions in life that, as human beings, no one will ever fully understand.
This question is one of them. No matter which side of the argument you are on, and no matter how much biblical or scientific "evidence" you proffer, are still NO CONCRETE answers to the universe.
That's just how it is. We can accomplish so much more by concentrating on things we CAN control.

1. "So perfect and comprehensive is His creation that no mind nor heart, however keen or pure, can ever grasp the nature of the most insignificant of His creatures; much less fathom the mystery of Him Who is the Day Star of Truth, Who is the invisible and unknowable Essence. The conceptions of the devoutest of mystics, the attainments of the most accomplished amongst men, the highest praise which human tongue or pen can render are all the product of man's finite mind and are conditioned by its limitations. Ten thousand Prophets, each a Moses, are thunderstruck upon the Sinai of their search at His forbidding voice, 'Thou shalt never behold Me!'; whilst a myriad Messengers, each as great as Jesus, stand dismayed upon their heavenly thrones by the indiction, 'Mine Essence thou shalt never apprehend!' From time immemorial He hath been veiled in the ineffable sanctity of His exalted Self, and will everlastingly continue to be wrapt in the impenetrable mystery of His unknowable Essence. Every attempt to attain to an understanding of His inaccessible Reality hath ended in complete bewilderment, and every effort to approach His exalted Self and envisage His Essence hath resulted in hopelessness and failure." -Baha'u'llah
2. "As to thy question concerning the origin of creation. Know assuredly that God's creation hath existed from eternity, and will continue to exist forever. Its beginning hath had no beginning, and its end knoweth no end. His name, the Creator, presupposeth a creation, even as His title, the Lord of Men, must involve the existence of a servant. ... Whatsoever in the contingent world can either be expressed or apprehended, can never transgress the limits which, by its inherent nature, have been imposed upon it. God, alone, transcendeth such limitations. He, verily, is from everlasting. No peer or partner has been, or can ever be, joined with Him. No name can be compared with His Name. No pen can portray His nature, neither can any tongue depict His glory. He will, for ever, remain immeasurably exalted above any one except Himself."

Maybe infinity really is infinite, so there never was a beginning and there will never be an end, only change. You can't have infinity AND a beginning, else it isnt infinity :)
