I think the main problem with Iraq (and the major flaw) is that Iraqis were raised hating the west, and anything associated with it. They might not have voted for freedom had we let them vote in anonymity before the war.
Don't forget it took our country a long time (years) to figure out how our government should work after we won the revolutionary war. Also keep in mind our country wanted freedom, but also wanted a government that could regulate the country.
Unfortunately President Bush could not take these facts into account when he originally decided to go in because OUR safety depended on making Iraq a place where terrorists are not welcome. Saddam (do not RIP) didn't care who came in as long as they lined his pockets.
Another problem is that the Iraqis are not living up to their responsibilities in keeping their country safe (or what we think their responsibilities should be), and we will not be able to leave until that country has some kind of working government with a peaceful agenda.
Who knows when that will happen, probably never.
But remember, we are still in Germany, Japan, Cuba, and other places you don't even know about.

We have to return to a hearts & minds concept. Nobody likes to see assault rifles on every street corner. Adding more linguists (Arabic, Farsi, Persian, etc) and educating our troops on Islamic practices & values will go a long way. But, how do we get to that point?
Violence breeds violence & hatred. This is why MLK preached non-violent protest. We have to secure the area by SHOW (not execution) of force.
We need to seriously focus on training Iraqi security forces & KEEPING them on the job. This will reduce the number of people that view us as occupiers, & will enable Iraq to defend itself the sooner. Thus, we can hand the country back over. Security is the single greatest (de)motivator.
Lastly, we need to help rebuild the Iraqi economy. Iraq's economy has been devastated over the last 30+ years largely due to American involvement. We backed Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war, which ended in huge population/financial losses. That led to Iraq invading Kuwait to seize more coastline & oil fields, which led to ONW/OSW, which only ended because of the GWOT. Getting people back to work will improve their views of the U.S. & keep them from killing each other.
This should help stamp out the resistance, because all the while people are getting used to the American presence I building (hopefully) positive relationships w/ us.
Are we doomed to fail? I sure hope not, but we do still have a lot of work ahead. Do not expect the troops to return for at least 5-10 more years. Iraq is a long-term issue.

That's cute. Are you trying to impress us with your "flawed" intelligence? Do us a favor and drop the WMD speech you heard on MTV. The fact is that Iraq had WMD's in the Gulf War and later used them on their own Kurdish population. That's not even a main point of the current war anyway. At least we can agree with not sending more troops over there. Oh, and try to watch some actual news to help make you at least sound smarter.

Did you hear what the president said on tv the other night? He said if the bad guys get control of the oil fields they could backmail us. It's just another way of trying to get us to support this stupid war. I guess no one believes that story about WMD. I think bush is getting disperate to try to change what's happening in Iraq. I just wonder how this guy can sleep at night after making such a big mistake.

Your premise is wrong. The war was not all about WMD, that was just one of a great many reasons.
No lies were told to get us into Iraq. Until you can accept the truth of that, you will never understand why we are there.

forgive me if im wrong but in order to fight and win a war regardless of the reasons you went in the first place is you need to have a clear idea of just who you are fighting and in this case if were not fighting the iraqi people then our enemy isnt exactly clear and the cowards who are fighting us and i call them cowards because they hide behind masks and suicide bombs. if they really want to fight they should show thier faces, put on a uniform and bring it on, and the american people should all become warriors and put an end to this foolishness once and for all.

You are trying to be smarter than you are. The supposed "origin" of this war has little to do with what it takes to "win" the situation that we are now in. An actual understanding of military tactics and warfare is what is required to understand the actual situation on the ground in Iraq....political opinions and rants have virtually nothing to do with it at this point......but ramble on if it makes you feel better.

No WMD's, but lots of oil . . .
Saddam had no Al-Qaeda ties,
but now we've given Iraqi sunnis, shiites,
& kurds a reason to hate us . . .
At this point, I think only other Arab countries
could help stablize the region
and we should humbly withdraw!

it has been doomed because we were fighting an imaginary enemy. I think that it was all a way to get to other interests somewhere in that area of the world
