Looking on the Internet (and around my living room) there is a clear difference of opinion, with some favouring M&Ms and others swearing it was Minstrels. We all remember the slogan from our childhoods, though. Please solve our argument!

It was Treats. Chocolate treats later changed their name to Minstrels, toffee treats disapeared, and peanut treats went technicolor and chaned into M&Ms, hence the confusion. So take your pick, either you're all right, or you're all wrong. It's up to you

All (down to 28) are wrong! wrong! WRONG! I do not know whether they went by another name in other countries, but in the UK is was MALTESERS! ....Ooooor was it/could possibly have been "Treets" or TREATS, because they were introduced in the 1960s or 1970s and perhaps needed an advertising campaign to start them off... Maltesers have been around much, much longer. The advert/slogan was certainly not for those really new-fangled things... M&Ms have not been for sale in the UK very long and I never heard of Minstrels!? Apart from the Black and White Minstrel Show and now that is considered so non-PC I should not even mention it...!

Minstrels are chocolate buttons with a hard glazed shell sold in the UK. Due to racial sensitivity, and the name's presumed reference to blackface minstrelsy, they would presumably be impossible to market in the United States under that name.

They have the slogan "They melt in your mouth, not in your hands" which is the same one used by M&Ms in the United States.

In line with Mars' rebranding, Minstrels have been repackaged and are now sold as "Galaxy Minstrels", referring to the use of Galaxy chocolate in them.

It was most definite Minstrel`s as they had a "shell" like coating on them and that stopped them from melting in your hand .
Also Minstrel`s were out when i was a kid 30 odd year`s ago and in comparison m&m`s are quite new ( well a lot less than 30 year`s )!
So defo Minstrel`s !

It was Minstrels in the UK. The same slogan was used for M&M's in the US.
But as you were asking about UK it was definitely Minstrels.
