My son is almost 16 months and he isn't walking by himself yet. He still needs to hold on to something, for support. He gets around fine doing that, and can crawl super fast and his motor skills are great. He's a big boy already 30 pounds and he's very tall already. My husbands side of the family are very tall/large people but healthy too. Anyone else have issues with walking? My first son, was smaller and walked much faster. Oh and my pediatrician isn't worried because of his size, but as a mother I just want him to take that step without support... Any good advice? Thanks in advance!!

I, too, was concerned about my baby not walking. At her last dr apt, 18 months old, she still was not walking. She even refused to hold on to anything to try to help in walking. We called her our "laid back" baby. Since she refused to roll over until 6 months, crawl until 11 months we weren't too concerned. At least not until her twin brother was off and running at 13 months.

The doctor wasn't concerned since her development was where it should be. Lo and behold, on January 5th she just decided to get up and walk across the room. She's been doing it ever since and hasn't looked back.

So don't worry, he'll do things in his own time as all babies do.

My son was 12 months old and 30 pounds, he started to walk at 10 1/2 months. He is very tall for his age, and has a large head. He is just trying to be sure of himself. My son knows how to walk up and down the stairs, but he is too afraid of doing it. I wouldn't worry about it, he is fine My nephew was 17 months till her started to walk without help

It is so easy as moms to get worried about things like this. I wouldn't worry at all. Especially since your pediatrician is not worried. I know SEVERAL babies that didn't walk completely on their own until they were 16 to 18 months. Hang in there- he will get it eventually. Every baby has their own timeline, don't force the issue and enjoy him everyday just the way he is.

Do not worry! Especially since your pediatrician isn't worried! He will be fine! Some kids just walk later. This is just from experience, but I have noticed that bigger babies walk later. It's just how it seems to be. My niece was 18 months before she started walking!

I have a friend's whose 3rd child didn't walk until nearly 2 years old. He just had no desire, as he could get where he wanted by crawling...and get there quickly. He finally started walking but now he won't talk. Dr isn't worried. He'll do it when he gets ready!! Same with your son. I'm sure very soon he'll just let go and take off walking.

Good luck to you.

That is a big boy. I wouldn't be concerned due to his size though. Because he is so big it will take a little more muscle, and a little better balance, than it would for a smaller child. My sister's son is a big boy like your's and it took him a little longer as well.

He is doing fine! If he was not trying to walk than there might be a problem. The bigger the kid, the harder it is for them to get their little legs to hold them up and walk! My daughter was a big girl and she did not start walking until 14-15 months! Your little one is trying...practice makes perfect!!

He'll walk when he's ready. It could be, if he's taller than average, that he's scared of heights when he stands up (it's farther to fall than normal). Honestly! It can be scary. Give him a couple more months, and he'll get the hang of it.
