When you get to the airline counter, just present your driver's license. They will look up your information and print out your boarding passes there. Many airlines now have where you can log into their website and print your own boarding passes 24 hrs before your flight takes off. Some airports also have kiosks that you can print out your boarding passes there.

I was checking in baggage so it was just easier to do it at the counter.
Very simple!

Here, there is an important difference between US travel and International travel.
In the US, you only need your ID, and the confirmation number to check-in. When you travel out of the country, many airlines will ask to see the credit card you used to purchase this ticket. Of course you will also need to present your passport to show you have documents to enter the destination country.
When you check-in outside of the US, there are airports in certain countries where the check-in agent is an airport employee (checks in people for any airline), not an airline personnel. That agent cannot access the same data that the airline can. What this means is that they will ask you for a print out with your e-ticket number (some 10 or so digits) on it. This happened to me and I had to go over to the airline service desk to ask for printout.

An e-ticket is an electronic ticket, meaning you will not be receiving a paper ticket in the mail. You can print out the ticket and take with you to the airport and the airline will give you your boarding pass (usually just the confirmation or ticket number from the ticket is enough).

With an e-ticket, you can usually get your boarding pass online, meaning you will not have to stand in line to get one at the airport. Online checkin is usually available from 24 hours to 1 hour before your flight time. Go to the airline website, enter the information from your eticket, choose seats and print the boarding pass. With a boarding pass, you can go directly to your gate at the airport and not wait in line to check in. (If you need to check baggage, you will still have to stand in line to check it, unless you use the skycap, who can take your bag curbside, usually for a few dollars and a much shorter line.) If you check in online, but don't really like the seat choices, you can still see the airline counter when you get the airport and they may be able to get you a better one.

Electronic ticket.

You typically purchase the ticket online or over the phone and the airline keeps the E ticket in their systems.

When you get to the airport on your date of departure, you put a credit card into a kiosk (to identify yourself). It finds your reservation, then prints your boarding pass and the sticker for your checked baggage (if you have any). The airline employee verifies your identification, attaches the sticker to your checked luggage and you are ready to depart.

Very quick and easy. I'll never use a paper ticket again.

A few airports are checking bags at the curb again. E-ticket is so easy if that happens. The agent will print luggage tags, just attach, hand over the stuff and take your boarding pass (which I print at home) and go through security. Viola!

Electronic Ticket. You dont need it at the airport. Just confirm your reservation a day or two before you leave.

an e-ticket isn't a paper ticket, it is just a receipt of payment, you don't have a ticket at all.

when you book it you enter your details, including your passport, and so when you get to the airport you just hand them your passport and they find your booking
