Little boys usually do not start to potty train until 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 yrs old. Boys take longer to train! Everyone thinks that once a kid turns 2 that he/she must be potty trained...not true! Here are several signs to look for:
1...stays dry all nite long
2...knows the difference between pee and poop
3...mimicks you when you go to the bathroom
4...request to go potty
Make sure you buy a potty..one that can sit on the toilet. And, use cheerios to help in aim in the potty when he pees! Make him try to go every 1-2 hrs!

My little guy was nearly three when we got him trained, and it was on a reward basis method. He knew he would get a lollipop when he when poop on potty, and a sticker when he went pee. I hung up a little chart and he picked out stickers to put on it whenhe went pee in the potty. We had a few days in the very beginning where we would go to the park and he would have an acident and we'd have to go home with wet pants, but it was only a week and he was all done. I didn't use training pants or any sort of trainers, we went cold turkey into underwear that he picked out. The trainer did nothing but confuse him. The trainers I used at night for about 3 weeks and then he was going all night without an accident at all!
I never chastised him when there were accidents, we would just go and clean up in the potty and talk about how next time we would make it to the potty!

Use cheerios in the potty, have him 'aim' for them. Be creative, and try to make it as fun as possible. 2 years old is not too early to potty train.

You wait until he is ready. You can train him for a year, and it won't help if he isn't interested. When he says he is ready, he'll likely get it in a weekend. Most boys aren't trained until much later. Nothing magical about 2! If you want it to last, and avoid lots of accidents later, be patient and take your cues from him, not what you think he should be doing.

Let him wear pull ups and take him with you when you go. Get him his own potty so he feels special and give him lots of hugs for doing the right thing.

I have found that videos have helped. Try a "Potty" movie. Where it is interesting...usually recognizable people or character using the potty.

They have potties that play music when they go and all kinds of fun things to get them interested. I used to take my son to the bathroom with me and make it seem fun to flush the toilet...weird, maybe, but he wanted to do the same thing.

Well sometimes it takes making things a little more exciting.......for my two boys I put cheerios in the toilet for them to aim at and made it a game!
Good Luck and remember it will happen naturally in time.....no pressure doctors don't worry as long as it happens before 3!

Try to make it fun. We would throw a few Cheerios into the bowl and let him have "target practice". It was actually a real hoot (and only got messy once or twice), and he picked it up pretty quickly. Good luck!!

One of the things I liked to do with my boy was put him in character underwear, preferably his favorite, and then tell him not too pee or poop on him, or whatever the character was.
And also the sticker reward system works too.
