They play a lot and get along well when we are home but they play very rough. They bite at each other and growl and roll around but seem to be playing. I am just worried that they might hurt each other. But the beagle pup REALLY wants to be with the pug and she cries horribly in her crate most of the day while we are gone.

Are these puppies who play rough like normal puppies do? If so, why not try leaving them together for short periods of time at first and see what happens. They're not going to play any rougher when you're not home than they do when you are. If they were fighting, rather than playing rough, there is absolutely no doubt that you would know it.

I would not suggest it. As a breeder of Chinese Pugs I know first hand they can be very aggressive to other dogs. If both were adults the situation may be different but puppies have a tendency sometimes to bite and chew and if it were to get on the Pugs nerves it could be ugly

I would not take that chance. Adult dogs, don't know that it's a puppy and may get carried away when playing and may hurt the puppy. It's ok, as long as they are being supervised. Is there any way you can place them close together, but without being able to get to each other?

I wouldn't until the puppy is house broken. Crate train the puppy. If the pup starts messing in the house, the older one might try to "claim" his territory and then you got a mess on your hands..

I have 4 pekingese and I never leave them all alone together even though they get along. Anything can happen so I think it's safer to seperate them when you're gone.
