Depends on what you plan on her or what she will be using it for...
I don't understand why any child under 16 would need one.
it is asking for trouble...

After all that is going on that i've heard on the news I don't blame you for wanting to get a cell phone for your daughter. I would suggest T-Mobile or seeing what is the best range for anywhere in your area. Some Cell phones won't go in certain area's. I know some people have Cingular and that is good too but T-Mobile right now has a good deal as well plus the outside color them is Pink (if she likes the hot pink color). They also have black and gray if your trying to hide the color's from other's.

Sprint and Cingulair both have very good phones for children. Get her one with parental controls so that she can only call and receive calls from those in her address book and 911. Also, most with parental controls have GPS locator too. That is a very cool feature.
Disney has a pretty good plan for kids too.
If you are looking for a prepaid phone, you might try the firefly.

The cheapest kind with the basic functions. I have a razor and that thing could just break by looking at it. I teach 10 yr olds and I can just see that cool looking cellphone passing from hand to hand or just tossed and then "by accident" disappearing or breaking into pieces.

First off what the first person said about getting her an iPhone thats ridiculous they are going to be like $600 when they come out. I think a reasonable phone would be one of those FireFly phones.

Trust me: she definitely needs one. I recommend a plan with pay as you go minutes, because you'll end up not spending as much in the long run. Try Tmobile to go, Verizon's service, or Cingular's GoPhone. It really is worth it in the long run. And since you keep the phone longer, you can splurge on the cooler phone.

Try to get a free phone or an inexpennsive one so if she breaks or loses it it is not that horrible. If you want to get her an expensive phone try a Sidekick, Razr (try the pink one or the Dolche & Gabbana one, gold), or the Choclate (if she doesen't like black then you could go with the Chocolate Cherry, red, or the Mint Chocolate, mint green).

Get her one of those put out by Cingulair called the "Go" phone.
It is a pay as you go phone. It is a prepaid phone system. She will have to learn how to manage her minutes and be responsible for the unit. There aren't any contracts.

my 11 y/o has the Virgin Mobile Oystr; she burns through the minutes, but has a sitting job to replace them!!
Also, Metro PCS has a $40.00/month no limit plan. It implies that local and long distance does not have to be monitored, as both are unlimited.

I completely understand. Get her a prepaid phone. It will teach her responsibilty in regards to the minutes. Go to the cell phone carrier you use and see what offers they have. Also, Disney Mobile http://disneymobile.go.com/disneymobile/home.do great phones that you can control what she can and cant do.
