I got a baby one about 3 months ago and what others here are saying is correct.........The bird needs to get used to his surroundings as he's in a little bit of shock by it all.......It took mine about 3 days (and he's a real baby one) to start eating and drinking and even playing..........It's the same with most birds, they just need some time to adjust...........CAT

Well, if it isn't weaned, buy hand feeding formula at the pet store, mix it as directed with warm water, avoid the microwave that can burn its crop, use a small baby sized spoon (it's messy but easier than a syringe) Feel the crop for fullness and stop feeding. Feed every 3 hours if needed. To switch to a good pelleted food (use 10% fruit and veggies and 10% seeds) try eating Cheerios in front of the bird with enthusiasm like saying "MMMM delicious!" They are flock birds and will follow the leader who is you. Then pretend to eat the pellet food when the Cheerios work. Baby food fruits and veggies are a good start too. It's always best to buy a weaned bird. You might take the bird back for advice or a trade. There have been well meaning owners accidentally kill their baby birds due to lack of experience. All this of course depends on the age of the bird. The bird should not go more than 2 days without food because they have such high metabolisms. Good luck and go to an avian vet for advice is another idea.

There are two possible things that are going on with your baby budgie. One, its just adjusting itself to its new home and might be kind of shy. Secondn maybe you are not feeding him the right type of foodbbecause, as you might know, baby budgies dont eat seeds and pellets right away. You have to give him a special food that you have to prepare with some water. Its kind of like a powder and you can find it at petco, petsmart or your local pet store. I hope your budgie eats.

He's just getting used to his surroundings. He is eating, just probably when he feels safe when no one's around. Be sure to leave seed, water and veggies out in the cage so he has easy access to them and don't worry, he'll eat. It just takes them a little while to get accustomed to their surroundings.
