AWOL is not the answer and neither is suicide. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Go talk to the Chaplain, your chain of command will give you the time.
When I was in Basic and AIT I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life. I didn't, but at the time I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I got to my unit in Germany a few months before we deployed to Kosovo. All it was, was beer and partying, and Kosovo was so great I tried to stay. Everyone can't see the good stuff in training because training is an intentional **** eating contest. A lot of people went through what you are going through. Not everybody is cut out for the Army but even more people make it harder than it has to be.
I was a basket case during training but I sucked it up. Got to my unit, which was full of some fairly cool people, made the best of it, got out, and now I make more money going to school on the GIBill than I did in the Army as an E-5!!! Plus I am in ROTC and ready to go back in as an Officer.
AIT is not normally that long and the whole idea is it gets easier as time goes on. If you made it through basic you are going to make it through this. If you need to e-mail me any specific ?'s you have since i am getting the impression that you are feeling you are in over your head and this is a lack of knowledge about your future, as opposed to you not being able to hack it. If you couldn't hack it you would have failed Basic. You can hack it, you are just feeling like your drowning in a sea of bullsh*t.
Oh, and your thinking rationally enough to not want a Dishonarable Discharge on your record so you've already thought your way through this. Suicide is not a rational solution. See where the dichotomy is? Figure out what your major complaints/problems are and repost or e-mail me and someone will be able to help you along.

If you are using a computer in AIT right now, it can't be all that bad. When I went through AIT in 1991 we couldn't have anything. If we tried to bring a piece of candy into the barracks we got our asses reemed! You're life really can't be that bad. I went through Basic and AIT in 1991 and I lived. I was in the U.S. Army for 4 years, and I loved everything about the military lifestyle. Is there something going on at home? Do you miss your family so much you would consider suicide as the only way out. I know AIT can't be that bad. Been there done that got the T-shirt. If you really want out that bad, you better tell you Senior Drill, you can probably get out on a dishonorable discharge. Someone before on here said that a dishonorable discharge won't cause people to not hire you. I disagree, with that. Employers do look at military service when they hire you. A dishonorable discharge will follow you around your whole life. I hope you can figure out what to do on your own. Suicide is definately not the way out.

Go see your sargent!! While you are at it start writing to your congress people telling it's time to end the war!!!! Hopefully they will start listening and you can pull out soon. Don't kill yourself or go WOL. What good will it do in the long run. As miserable as you are now at least you have the possiblity to find happiness in the future. Getting arrested, or dying would end your chances of that ever happening. Plus thing of the people who would be sadden without you. When your miserable minutes seem like hours but they are still just minutes.
Maybe it would be a great thing if you starting on emails and penpal etc. It won't change the military life. However it might give you a few highpoints and the day which you might want help.
BEST of LUCK.

Wow... Why are you depressed? Why would you want to kill yourself? There must have been someone or something that happened to make you feel this way....... but you know what.. there are other people out there in the world who have to deal with so much harder problems in life than what you are dealing with right now. And hey, no one has to go through anything alone..I'm sure there are other people who are going through the SAME THING you are... so just be strong. Don't allow anything to make you weak or ruin your path in life. And you know, think about it, if you DID kill urself....is it really THAT worth it? Is ending your life now really worth it in the end? C'mon... what if in the future, the things you thought were impossible, happened to you? You just said you don't want any "bad marks" on your record for life... killing yourself is a BAD MARK, cuz u didn't FIGHT BACK to live. Everything will go smoothly...life is never the way we want it man...**** happens...and when we deal with ****, it only makes us wiser :)

Worst case scenario as long as you don't go awol is a dishonourable discharge. Most employers don't really care about that, but if you go awol, the Army will most certainly care.
You should speak to your company CiC and perhaps request a transfer to a different MOS where you feel you may be happier until your period of enlistment runs out. I'm happy to help you if you like.

It's not worth killing yourself over....I mean talk about a "bad mark" on your life....you should talk to a superior. There must be some kind of counseling...? Look into it...seriously. Maybe if you are able to get out of the depression, you could find something positive about the military that you can use in your life.

I served in the Marine Corps from 83-87 At first I loved it but a few things happed while I was in that I hated it. Also as you know they make every ****** and give them more rank over you. Just stick it out you did not sign up for life. and when they ask you if you want to reenlist for the benifits laugh at them.. Also thank you for serving in the Armed forces which protects our freedom

well I am sorry for your situation. It is best to talk to your sarge or commander. Maybe they will help you out. I know it is getting hard, just hang in there buddy. You will get out in no time. Its hard for me too I've been serving in Iraq and afghan for 5 years with the navy seals. The black operations are taking a toll on me. But I know I can't leave my brothers and sisters out there alone. They need me and I need them. I know we will make it out alive together. That is what the strength that drives me on. Keep your head up buddy, don't give up yet. I am suffering trauma too, but I am not giving up yet. Take care and good luck.
