Go to your local Community Services center and ask them what you could do to help local seniors. Perhaps you can either help them with things they need done or compile a book with their memories of the area when they were young, seeing if they have old interesting photos they could contribute. These people are living history books and when they go, their knowledge goes with them, unless we do them the honor of letting them know they can help document it.

I'm just thinking of projects that have been done in my area.

1. 100 trees were planted in our town for our town's 100th birthday.

2. A walking trail was created for the community.

3. An outdoor classroom at an elementary school with enough picnic tables for a class.

4. A play area was built for a church.

5. A small memorial park to honor children in the county who have died. It has benches, a statue and a brick wall with victims names.

In a town I lived in, an prospective Eagle Scout build 'Welcome To ____' signs on the major roads coming into town. He must have paid for or had some drawings donated because they were very professional looking. I read in the paper that he raised the money to have them built.

Find a small Church and build them some pews or do their landscaping (new bushes, trees, mulch, flowers, etc).
Try calling around to some of the smaller or less know not-for-profits in your area. They need carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, painting work done all the time and so many do not have the money to pay to have the work done.
