well I DO kick to the knees, and when I have missed I have always followed through with more attacks from close range. you are an idiot ninedemonsgod if you think you only attack with a single movement. you have combinations of follow through and that is because you need them to cover any fuk ups that may arise.
you are right though, no one stands there waiting. but you dont telegraph it you fool. you never let the opponent know your move in advance so you mask it with a bluff. through the hands up as you go for the lower legs. their hands raise because of reflex and the rest is history, plus there are always the ever present follow throughs.
I am in my 5th year of bouncing, and have my share of defeat and success. I rely on gross motor skill, deception of intent, and awareness of my environment to win.
because you are only as experienced as your training history, you may not be familiar with looking calm while preparing for war. a calm mind cannot live in a tense body. adrenal responses can not be turned off, but can be realised as what they are, and the force of will is used to control the emotions. breathing slower, leaving hands open (not in fists), establishing minimal talk, and positive mental reinforcement all help to ensure you can use the hormone to your advantage and not use up excessive energy, get tunnel vision, or allow breathing to get your heart and sweating too far gone to control. if you control your breathing with slower deeper breaths you are on your way to control, if you allow the breathing to increase and become shallow you will lose your own battle for control of the situation. anxiety is the product of adrenaline, and it makes you doubt yourself. any anxiety self help tuition can help you over come this effect when it hits, as it is all about knowledge that you are going through adrenaline response, nothing more, and if you can be confident in everyday life with your ability there is no need to fear more than you need to stay alive...
the down side of adrenaline is that like other chemicals, it alters your consciousness, so like speed or LSD, it has the power to shape your thoughts differently to the normal thoughts you have. you have to realize that the sensations and thoughts are a result of adrenaline which is responding to the minds interpretation of a situation.
excitement from adrenaline is not wanted, and without managing your anxiety you WILL get excited (either positively or negatively).
once you control the thoughts, relax the muscles by not allowing you to tense them and slow the breathing, after a few moments you will feel more relaxed inside the adrenaline response. the more calm you appear in a situation, the less likely you will lose, and the more often the opponent will doubt themselves as you are calm (in their eyes) and they are experiencing the anxiety and side-effects of adrenaline.
I dont talk from books, I talk from my history as a doorman, and the experience other bouncers share to better the mental response to the hormonal release. the thing with bouncing is you dont have the choice to run, but running is better with the help of adrenaline, just suck in deep. not shallow.
I am not a perfect weapon, far from it, but learning how to turn your mental response to the physical effects of adrenaline can improve the odds exponentially. experiencing the sensation and trying out various methods to adapt are all you need. if you have no experience of acting while under the influence I suggest you start learning. spar with someone who will not fight fair...

I feel exactly the same. Many people here keep say they will win easily because they can gouge eye, kick at the knee, etc...They all act like it will work every single time no matter what! They are under impress that most people will stand and let them do it. Sad thing is not long ago a regular answer in martial arts section posted a question asking why her martial arts didn't help when a man was attacking her. She haven't posted since that. I guess she can't handle the truth.
I wonder how many more wil seriously get hurt because of their false sense of secure.
I'm a Muay Thai fighter, I have few fights in the ring. I remeber how at my first two fights, I find it extremely difficult to do techniques decently and not go crazy. After awhile I finally manage to learn how to throw proper technique decently under stress. I can't imagine what will happen to many others who train at black belt factory or place where they doesn't do any spar beside one step spar. That's why I perfer people to prove their skill in sparring, ring, cage, or on the mat instead of talking about it.

the only other person youd have a chance of getting an experienced answer from has already answered(stg) i will add though that bouncing is still controlled to a point, theres other bouncers, staff, patrons etc.(not knocking it)theres a lot worse situations to be in,a hell of a lot worse.and the fact is you have to remember and you have to know how to use your adrenaline and fear to your advantage, and you have to think faster, react quicker and be prepared to do or die.and it's hard with multiple attackers and unlike being a bouncer you cant rely on help from anyone.
if you dont do these things and think this way in a real situation you are going to die or get seriously hurt, which is still a possibility anyway.but you dont want to make it easy for them.lucky for most they never get in a real situation(they think they do though) and a lot of those that do find out that it's to late to learn that dojo training and lack of experience(whether it be personal or from thier instructer) is possibly going to get them hurt or killed.
PS.fighting and self defense where you life depends on it are completely different and i dont know why so many so called ma dont see that?

A man can only say what he can do, since one does not know what the future holds, no man can say what he will do.
