More people speak French than German, but they are primarily Africans formerly under the French crown. If you intend on a business/engineering career, communicating in German would prove more useful as the industries in German-speaking countries are more likely to be collaborators. If you intend on diplomacy/peace corps, French would be better as most humanitarian aid goes to Africa, where they'll understand French.

well since both are major players in foreign policy i can't go by importance but i will say to take french becasue its easier than german, and sounds better.

If you are not mixed with any of the language classes they provide for you in your school, I would go with Spanish, that is the easiest to learn and pick up on, the rest are very hard.

in my opinion, you should learn french because more countries use it other than france but some countries in Africa that were colonies before and its easier to learn french because i know both languages and i like french more coz its more usefull.

I think you should take either Japanese, Korean, or Chinese. Asia is rising to power and France is in decline (not sure about Germany though, even though its car economy is in decline)
Investing in an Asian language may be smart.
