I took her on a short walk to do her business and we we came in she started coughing and hacking up this white foam. It has me really concerned. She did not eat anything, I watched her the entire time. She starts breathing really hard and I called the vet they just said watch her....that didn't make me feel any better. I am really worried, can anyone help? :(

she is only about 1 year old. She has always been very health, and an active dog. She is still running around, but I am still worried about it. I don't have children so she is like my baby.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that perhaps if she has a yard with grass in it, and she ate some of that grass, she will cough up white foamy stuff. When a dog has an upset stomach, they will eat almost anything green in the way of plants or grass. They prefere grass because it's easier to digest and gets the job done. Did you know that before humans domesticated dogs, they were more vegetarians than meat eaters? Yep. And they love vegatables! So your dog should be okay, but if she keeps doing this, take her to your vet just to be sure, okay? Good luck.

My first question would be was she pulling on her leash a lot during the walk?? Basically, did she somewhat choke herself pulling you around on the leash? Gagging sound?
The white foam spit up is not unusual. She may have been pulling too hard. Maybe it was colder outside. Throat got dry or irritated by something in the air. Humans cough to clear the throat and dogs do too.
As your vet advised keep an eye on her. If coughing you can try rubbing her throat area. What you described is common in small breed dogs when they get over excited or run around too much.
Would not be concerned unless she becomes lethargic, vomitting up fluids/food, refuses to eat/drink and just not acting herself at all.

We have 2 Rottweilers and every time they go for a walk this happens, the white foam stuff..It's because they overheat when walking especially if they're a "Puller" They breath hard and seem really exhausted.Just give him time to cool off,NO water though right after a heated walk, they will throw up! Hope he gets better soon..

It's probably just vomit. It's often whitish or slightly yellowish, depending on what your dog ate, and bubbly/foamish. When your dog vomits, it'll make those glugging sounds (the sounds of its stomach pushing the food back up to regurgitate). It's normal, and she should feel a lot better after doing it (as opposed to digesting it, if it's dirty/poisonous). If you're brave, you can sift through the vomit to see what she's been poking around.

How old is your dog? How many times did it happen? How is her energy level now? Any medical problems/history?
Well if she is healthy, oung, only happened once, and since activity level good... sounds to me she wil be fine. Sometimes the can eat something that upsets there stomach, or causes irritation on the way own, and then they gag, vomit it up. Grass, mulch, etc

Well, your vet gave you the best advice. It sounds to me like she might have eaten something she shouldn't have and it made her sick.
