I've had the same problem...sort of. I mean, after I brush, I feel all minty and clean but a little later, it wears off 'til it stinks. Try brushing your TONGUE often: your tongue controls your breath...

You might want to try the mouth rinse/wash BreathRX, since it has no alcohol in it, but is still an anti-bacterial.
It is not only designed to help fight plaque like most rinses, but it also is designed to help fight bad breath. You can find it online or in some pharamcy/drug stores.
The company also sells a mouth scrapper, which is very simply to use and very efficient, much more efficient than brushing your tongue.
Make sure to floss at least once a day, too. Then rinse after you floss.

Have you asked your dentist about it?
Even if you brush often, you may not be brushing effectively. Plus you need to floss daily too (I know it's a pain in the butt). But, you could have some decay, and gum disease can cause bad breath.
Are you on any medications? Or are you on a special diet? Extreme low carb diets cause your body to go in to ketosis, which can cause bad breath. There are a number of things that could cause it, but these might get you started.

you can use listerine or scope twice or as many times a day u want so maybe u wanna a buy a small packet to carry around with u. also use toothpastes like colgate, crest. there is a colgate or crest paste which also has scope in it. also i've heard that crest white strips help with bad breath as well. also maybe aviod eating things that might not smell so good(for instance onions,). does anyone else for instance the people in your family tell u that ur breath is bad or is it just ur friend? (maybe ask a family member?) it might be that ur friends just playing with u. okay and if all else fails you can make an appointment with ur dentist and he/she can definitely solve ur problem. and don't be shy they exist to help others. so good luck!! :)

It sounds like you need to floss...When you floss make a C shape around each side of your tooth and move it up and down into the gum tissue. It will disurb the bacteria and get rid of the food inbetween your teeth that brushing alone doesn't get. Also make sure you are getting regular cleanings every 6 months

Is your bad breath confirmed? I have to wonder if your best friend is just pulling your leg all the time...
Assuming she's being honest, here's some info that might be helpful:
