Some people will say that getting a tattoo is very painful and it may be if you're very sensitive. But in reality, unless you are getting a tattoo on a place that is close to the bone like your ankle or your spine then it really doesn't hurt at all. Have you ever been scratched by a baby kitten? it like that. it doesn't hurt, but it would get a little irritating if you were getting little scratches in one spot over and over. the needle only needs to be long enough to put ink into the top layer of skin. Just be sure to get you tattoo from a skinnier person because in general a bigger person will have a much heavier hand.

There is some pain at first, almost like a getting a shot combined with a bug bite. After about a minute it just feels like someone pressing on that area due to your body's endorphins and the vibrations from the tattoo gun. No real pain. It starts to hurt if the artist stops for a period of time, to change guns, inks, needles, etc, then starts again on the same spot. But tattoos feel different on everybody. You could ask a hundred people and get a hundred different answers.

It all depends on where you get the tattoo as to how bad it hurts. I have one on my lower back and stomach region. At first its just a pinch, but then it turns into a burning sensation. A needle is being pressed layers into your skin and then pulled pretty much. It doesnt feel good, but its honestly not that bad. The worst part is when they go for so long and have to get more ink and start again. You're body gets used to the feeling and then it starts all over. My boyfriend has about 15 tattoos, and he said the worst were his ribs and stomach. My stomach was a cake walk. Everyone's pain tolerance and sensitivity areas are different though. You're best bet is to focus on something else while you're getting it. The more nervous you get before you even start, the worse it will be.

Tattoo pain is strange...it is more annoying than painful to most people (but I find it very soothing). I doesn't hurt any worse than touching your skin when you have sunburn. The vibration tens to set people's teeth on edge. Also, since it is your first time, I recommend chewing some gum. Newbies tend to hold their reath, and the gum will help you to avoid passing out from over-excitement (sounds kinda dumb, I know...but you will understand when you are getting tatooed). Don't worry about the pain though...my profile pic is of my back tattoo...if it hurt all that badly, I coudn't have done that one). Good luck!

The only way I can find to describe the pain is from my personal experience. I think a tat feels like a cat scratch. You know one of those scratches that is bad enough to draw blood. The real thin but deep ones. I would say it is a combo of this pain and the anoyance of needles rubbing your skin raw. It sounds way more painful than it is, but this is the best way I know how to discribe it. Good Luck.

Each person feels it different and depends on the location. If it is right on a bone, this hurts more. My tattoo the outlining felt like a cat slowly scratching and the color fill in felt like pressure. My daughter said that her outlining just felt like pressure and the fill in felt like being poked with thousands of needles, the one on her shoulder blade was more painful than the one on her lower abdomen.

It various on where you'll want one but, if not used anesthetic, : on Brows= like someone scratches with a sharp knife point, its tolerable. Eyeliner= its painfull without numbing, it feels same as above but much more tender,
Lip liner/fill in Lips=best have a Dentist give you at least a 3hr. block or longer, depends on the Technicians speed.
On Lips, if filled, will make Lips dryer, apply ointment daily

just go & do it - you'll see...... lol ......it's not like anything you would've ever felt before, definitely hard to explain..... but i have 9 so it can't have been too bad, right?! be careful, they are addictive!! depends on size & where you get it....... i have a leopards head on my upper thigh & got it done all in one go (what was i thinking?!) took 3 hrs...... yes, 3 hrs...... was probably more sore afterwards trying to wash it & stuff cuz it was bruised.... smaller ones tend not to cuz they don't take long to do..... the itching while it's peeling is prob the most annoying thing, cuz u cant scratch!!! (cuz you may scratch off colour)

when I got mine I was scared to death, lol--my friend had me thinking I'd be leaving in an ambulance
BUT--my god-it did not hurt me AT ALL.
It felt like someone put their dull finger nail on my skin and was just rubbing up and down in one spot. it was like an annoying itch
my tattoo is on my lower back, above my butt- & I got it done in 3 stages-the outline first, then words, then the coloring in.
what hurt worst is when it was all done a few days later and was starting to scab over, the biggest spot of color just felt sore.
