The movie is based on factual occurrences in one family. And I am sure there was artistic license in its production.

BUT, this is just one story. Muslims from different parts of the world have different cultures and this story is not repeated in every religiously mixed marriage. I know a formerly Christian woman who married a Muslim, converted, and has 2 kids by him. After the divorce, she has the children and the poor guy is heartbroken because he can only see his kids when convenient for her. Why don't they make a movie about their lives?

Prophesy? I haven't heard that. I watch the movie often and read the book every now and again (over and over)... I've got a soft spot in my heart for altruistic Muslims and Betty Mahmoody has always said, in her interviews and such, that the movie is NOT to be viewed as a BAD look at Iran. She speaks highly of Iran and Iranian customs, food, etc. I've NEVER heard her be angry about Iran... however the dishonesty her husband committed wasn't terribly excusable. I don't pity someone who causes another person harm to serve their own agenda.

Ironically, when i embraced Islam, this was the movie my mother compared Islam to. Before Islam, I did think that this movie was ALL about Islam and how the Muslims deal, but that was years ago, I embraced Islam 6 years ago, and never, never did i see what went on in that movie to be true. Then realized that this was one experienced and not the Truth. This is one example how media, ie news, commercial, magazines, and book, can never film, write, nor capture the true essence of Islam.

I don't think of it as prophecy. I do not intend to get married or ever have kids. I have no interest in visiting the Middle East, at least not unless it calms down. I don't see why I would think of it as prophetic.
