When i get "manic" or rather "hyper" I tend to do things that are potentionally risky but mostly just sensation seeking activities but I dont think im bipolar because alot of bipolar people I have met are much meaner and more easily irritated when they are manic so could I just have adhd? Both of my parents also have really bad mood swings, and can someone maybe state the differances between bipolar and borderline disorder? thanks

Depression is a mental illness.....we have all suffered it at some time in our life. Depression can come in all shapes and forms, so maybe you are just going through a depressive time in your life. The worst thing you can do is box yourself up into have a specific disorder such as bi-polar....sometimes just the stigma of having it can cause all sorts of problems. I would, however, talk to your doctor and maybe he/she can make some suggestions how to ease your depression....maybe medication coupled with counselling. I wouldnt ignore your depression because it could get worse...so seeing your doctor is the best bet.

The thing about being bipolar, there is no time limits on the highs and lows. In fact, a rapid cycler, which I am, the mania and the lows are short. The mania is what leads to the lows.
You need to get a professional opinion! The medication they have for bipolar works very well, esp. once you get on the right med and right dose.
I'm on welbutrin and neurontin. The later being the mood stabilizer, and the first one being the antidepressant. The manias are just as dangerous as the lows. The manias you do stuff that you normally wouldn't do, and usually it is risky stuff; and the lows, if let go too long, can lead to suicide.
It is a serious mental illness, but one of the easiest ones to treat.

These can be signs of bipolar disorder. You need to see your doctor. There are great meds that can stabilize you so you don't cycle so much. I'm bipolar and it took me some time to find the right mix of drugs but I've had good luck this last several months.

Sounds like you are describing borderline personality disorder. It is treatable. In some people it acts like a shortened up version of bi-polar disorder. Moods change quickly. You may want to try and research it. There are some pretty good sites dedicated to it.

"Clinical depression is generally acknowledged to be more serious than normal depressed feelings. It often leads to constant negative thinking and often substance abuse."

There are varying levels of depression.
Having gone through clinical depression, I can say that it has very noticeable physical manifestations.

I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist, either.
I'd leave diagnoses to the guys who studied these things for 8 or so years.
