As a parent, I can tell you that we are only trying to do what is best for you. We've learned hard lessons ourselves, and try to save you from our mistakes, or mistakes you may be about to make that we know are harmful to you. It doesn't always work, but that's the motivation. We want to see you grow up and become successful in life. There is no instruction manual for being a parent, we just do the best we can, and hope all turns out well. Good luck!

Parents are legally responsible for the things their kids do so therefore they make the rules and decide if you are able to do stuff with care and attention.
It is our JOB to make sure that you are doing only GOOD stuff and not illegal/crazy/meaningless stuff.
So get a grip. My adult children (in their 30s) have thanked me for the tight rein that my husband and I kept on them as they were teens.
Now, there are abusive parents and there are drunks and weirdos, - I cannot speak for them. I am fairly 'normal' and we have a 4 BR 2 bath home in the 'burbs. So you see - it is all relative. Hope your parents are doing the best they can.
If you are abused, see the school counsellor.

Although I am a parent, I remember what it was like when I still lived at home. I can say that I had no idea how much I would love my kids until I had them, and it is my job to help them make the right decisions, and make the right decisions for them when they might be in danger. I also remember how unfair it felt at the time. Hang in there
Wreckless--why are you a jerk?

Yes I do. Last year, I wanted to walk to my bf's house, but my mom wouldn't let me because she didn't feel good and we had just had a death in the family. I just wanted to get out of the house because every one was so somber and it was bringing me down, but she wouldn't let me go. The next day, in school I hear that someone got raped around the corner from my bf's house. As I learned more about it, I realized that it happened at the same exact time that I would have been going to his house, and that could have been me. It still scares me, but if my mom hadn't insisted that it was "too late" I would have been the one raped.

Yes. They are looking out for you. Parents who let their kids run wild don't give a damn about them. You will understand when you have children.
