Excuse me,but it makes no sense to me at all!As a matter of fact I don`t think its real smart at all!

There are several reasons why it is rounded.
1) The bottle must contain the pressure of the CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the soda. A flat sided container like a milk carton can not contain the pressure.
2) A round bottle is an easy shape to manufacture
3) A round bottle holds the most liquid for the amount of plastic used in the packaging.
You may notice that the plastic for the 20oz Coke bottles that look like the old glass ones is slightly thicker. That is because it needs more strength to contain the CO2 pressure.

in the 80s. can not inform you the marvelous 12 months even with the undeniable fact that it got here in whilst the refundable glass bottle element went out. Later they got here with 3 liters yet that exchange into very overdue 80s or very early 90s.

This question should be asked in manufacturing/business. There is a reason and I believe it's the cheapest way to manufacture with the least equipment... check with a plastics molding company if you need to now more.

it is a very strong structure. If any part was flat it would get bulged out by the CO2. also, square and flat surfaces are not as strong and could break.

It comes in a cylindrical shape so your fat hands can reach around it to pour yourself another glass.
