Okay, I wouldn't call myself racist, but I am prejudice to those people who doesn't try to learn ENGLISH! Damn, why do we have to translate everything?! Some people been living here for years and years and still couldn't speak English, what is up with that? I guess thats why some people are limited to career advancement because they couldn't communicate very well and settle for a less mediocre job. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

PILGRIM, if it makes you feel better, thanks for the correction. I didn't need to use grammar or spell check just to justify that i can speak the language correctly.

I could give half a s**t about what language someone speaks. If they don't take the time out to learn English and they live in America and they are stuck doing whatever menial jobs then that is their choice. Think about, a lot of immigrants come from places where the education system is so a** backwards, or there isn't one, or they don't go and they decide to work as children to help support the family. They come over here not even knowing how to learn. Also, a dishwasher(for example) over here probably makes so much more money than they would doing something far harder and more demanding back home. If they don't learn to speak the local language and are happy doing their jobs, then whatever, leave it be.
Lastly, if us English speakers would like to better ourselves, we should think about learning Spanish. Over a billion people speak it in the world and most of the countries that speak it are close enough geographically that it should be a priority for Americans to learn. I am a business student and I live in Florida so I have two huge reasons to learn how to speak Spansih; we have a huge spanish population and even though they may have the desire or ability to learn our language i would like to be able to communicate better with a lot of the people I run and secondly, in the global marketplace which is becoming bigger and bigger everyday it would only be wise for me to know another language or two.
It just a reality that Spanish is a hugely spoken laguage and that isn't going to change. Someone doesn't have to speak the language of their new country unless they want to. I remember twenty years ago, there were no spanish instructions on shampoo bottles, but now their are and the reason is because there is a huge population that can't read the English. It's not our problem, so don't worry about it.

I agree. While I was grocery shopping yesterday,I took notice how many more products are now written in English and Spanish.I mean, come on,they can tell that they are buying a can of corn by the picture on it,why does it have to be written in Spanish too?I will not buy anymore products that have to have two languages on them and will be writing to the companies that do this to tell them why I will no longer buy their product. This is the United States...speak English!

. . . those who "don't" try to learn english, not "doesn't".
And you may be prejudice "against" those people, but not "to" them.
"couldn't" is out of place because it infers a contingent, "can't" would have been a better choice in that context. Same in the following sentence.
"limited to career advancement" makes the case that career advancement is the choice they are limited to. I don't think that's the idea you're trying to convey.
to say they "settle for a less mediocre job" means the job they get is better. You probably meant a "less than mediocre job", or a "less substantial job".
While I agree with your intended meaning, you're demonstrating that you yourself haven't accomplished what you're expecting of those you're criticizing.

I just want to say that I can personally get along with people who don't speak english. I don't care if it's Japannese, Chinese, Spanish, or Afrikaan, it don't matter to me. I don't need to understand you to understand you. Maybe if they come here at a later age they don't get the opportunities to learn the language, thus causing their children to lack the necessary language skills to succeed prosperously in this nation. It's like a chain reaction, kind of like ebonics or pigeon, your parents speak it, so that's how your going to speak.

they dont want to be part of our culture...instead, their leaders tell them that americans are the problem..we are the reason they had to leave mexico and latin america to work here...they dont really want these people to learn english, because then these people would see how much better they could have it if they got out of their barrio's and became americans...as long as they keep believing we are their "enemy" they will continue to resist and not assimilate...which will keep their power mad controllers in a position to intimidate and make them fearful of turning to a better way of life...
