I am getting my tonsils taken out in a couple weeks and the nurse said I would have scabs form where my tonsils were, she said I would either spit them out or swallow them...if you've had yours taken out, are the scabs big? How big are they?

I'm a nurse. No they are not big. She really shouldn't have told you that. It's really not that bad. Hey you get to eat all the ice cream you want, cool. You will be fine it isn't bad at all. Take care and breathe now, you will be OK.

Wow - thats weird. I had my tonsils out when I was 21 years old, and I don't remember that. Mine were so swollen and infected for so long, they started to grow together, so I can't imagine, that if I had "scabs", I think I would have known. Anyway, have lots of room temperature ginger ale on hand. Popsicles, Jello, cream pies, anything soft. It will take a few days before you want anything with too much texture. They say that the older you are the more painful it is. I personally, didn't find it to be all that bad. Yes I was uncomfortable, but it really wasn't that bad. Good luck, and I hope you have a quick recovery.

don't worry about it you will be OK. as far as the scabs go you should not even notice they are not scabs like the ones you get on your skin which are hard and dry these are more like little blood clots which are wet and moist the discomfort you will feel will be from the incisions and sutures (sutures)
