Unfortunately, the honest answer is "You can't". If a cat is in a house, no matter how hard you try, the allergens will always be there.

I had to part ways with our family dog..... the health of my family was simply more important. continual allergies can lead to sinus problems, which in some form can create very serious health conditions.

It quite honestly depends upon the severity of the individual's allergies. All of the tips that people have listed (removing carpet, frequent cleaning and washing, etc.) decrease the level of cat dander. However, I know that in my own case, no amount of cleaning could remove cat dander to a degree in which I live because of the severity of my allergies. When my allergist tested me, she super-diluted the cat dander down to one part in 1 million, and I still had to have an injection of epinephrine.

Do what you can as far as cleaning and allergy-proofing your house and consult with the person you're interested in living with. Only he/she can tell you if it's working.

Non-carpeted floors help, and leather upholstery. We have a Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner. It picks up everything. And though we have a cat when people with allergies to cats come over they don't have any trouble. And we have carpet.

Get an air cleaner. Vacuum frequently. Use a slightly-dampened cloth to dust frequently. And make sure to wash your curtains, and if you have one the blades of your cieling fan: You would be amazed at where cat fur can go.

Good luck!

Here's what I did- take out all the wall to wall carpet and replace it with tile, take out the curtains and replace with blinds, wash the sheets and blankets every week or two, change the furnace filter every month. It helped, but not completely.
