my boyfriend and i are currently living together in a apartment our lease is up in another 3 months. his 24 yr old brother has been staying with us the entire time we lived here because his failed plan of moving in with his girlfriend. my question is how can i get my bf to see that his older brother is never really gonna get his own life if my bf is always there as his crutch. when the lease is up i really dont want his brother following us to the new apartment. i want to be honest but not mean what should i tell my bf?

Just remember, blood is thicker than water. This may not be a road you want to go down as it may cost you your relationship (unless of course you're up for giving him the ultimatum.) Now if you were married, I would say you have a better case. But for the meantime you are just dating(though living together). I know my wife does not always like all the stuff I do for my brother, but the fact remains, he is my brother. Sometimes he's a mooch, but my brother nonetheless.

When your lease expires do not renew it. Get your own apartment if you can afford it. Have your boyfriend and his brother renew the old lease. If your boyfriend is forced to carry his brother 100% the burden will open his eyes and he will realize his brother needs to go. In the meantime your boyfriend can spend time with you in your place.

You will never know how well you and your boyfriend are suited to living as a couple if there's a third party around. You have to decide if you are willing to change your living arrangements if your boyfriend decides he will allow his brother to move with you. Personally, I would live alone and see my boyfriend if/when he wanted to be with me for an evening but I would not agree to live with both of them. You need to know where your boyfriend's true loyalty is before you go any further in this relationship and when you discuss this with him, you will find out.
