Short of everyone just telling you which camera they bought, there is really only one camera that stands out in this genre. ONLY (did I say 'only?') the Fuji cameras have incorporated the engineering in their sensors to perform well in low light. And- you pay less for the Fuji's since they don't command the price premium of the Canon or Sony brand names. They've got a line of small cameras that are significantly better at low light (high ISO) photography than anything else on the market, and the basic version of it is called the Fujifilm F20. Google it. You can pick it up for ~$165 at newegg, and a short time ago, Circuit City had it for ~$130.

It's a 6mp camera- that performs and resolves images as good as any 8mp camera out there, and as good as some 10mp. It's got a clean ISO400, very good ISO800 and usable ISO1600. Something that only DSLRs can compete with. it also has good battery life, a nice 2.5" screen, is fast to start-up and AF and is an all around high quality camera.

Stop looking and just buy this one. There's nothing that comes close in the price range. I'll let you google it yourself.

I own Sony CyberShot which I love. But what is inexpensive? You can check out the Sonys along with some Fugi cameras. Also look at Website and people reviews of different cameras at dpreview.com

Nikon L3 ($100-$130) NEW on eBay or http://www.abesofmaine.com

The Nikon L3 DOES take excellent indoor & night time pictures, but it will take a little time to learn how to use all of the features to do it right, it doesn't "hold your hand", but has all of the features you need to take quality shots! (ISO is only up to 200 though.....)

Visit this website to research other cameras as well:

Also check out PriceGrabber.com, excellent comparison shopping website! :)

For ease of use by a novice, nothing comes close to Kodak. Like:
