I was looking for some info for a wizard of oz party we are having and just happened to see your question. My son has been into the wizard of oz for about 6 years now. We did a wizard of oz room for him. We painted "ruby slipper red". I took a wizard of oz calendar to the paint store and had them match the color. We were lucky because we had a friend who had access to a huge color copier at work. He took a calendar and blew up 3 pictures for us (3 feet by 4 feet!) and I mounted them on foam core. i found some shelves at a garage sale and painted them red as well. My son has collected so much wiz stuff his collection became decor, including books set on shelves. I used quite a bit of blue and white gingham (like Dorothy's dress). I made curtins with this. I found a b&w gingham night light. You can use witches brooms for curtin rods. I also took a wiz picture, scanned it a made an iron on transfer, then ironed them on pillow cases for the bed. I went to the hardware store and bought an oil can and a silver metal funnel and put those on the shelves. Finally since we had several old calendars i framed pictures for the walls from those. I hope some of this helps! If you want to buy things contact Kansas Sampler (in Kansas City) on the web. They are amazing and have a ton of wiz stuff you can purchase.

(1) Buy a dollhouse that looks like the house from the Wizard of Oz and make it a night light.
(2) It will take some time but if you start in the middle of the room and go in a circle you could paint the yellow brick road.
(3) It would be great if you had something to use like the legs and feet of the wicked witch of the east and place them at the end of the bed like the house landed on her. Be sure to use striped socks.
(4) An old broom in the corner would be nice.
(5) If you could find a crystal ball to put on the dresser that would be great.
(6) The walls would be the best part. Of course this would take some time. The yellow brick road could continue on into one wall. A dark sky with a tornado on one wall. A farm scene on another wall. And the Wizard himself on one wall.
(It shouldn't be too difficult to do the walls with the tornado and the yellow brick road but the other two may need to be done by someone with an artistic touch.

OK, Here's my suggestion. Paint the walls a pale blue color, like the sky. Get a yellow carpet for a yellow brick road kind of look, or you could have a wood floor and buy some yellow carpet and cut out a winding yellow brick road out fo the carpet. You could draw the bricks on it with permanent marker.
If you can't do this yourself, find a person who is artistic and paint one entire wall as a mural. You could include the characters, Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Lion and the Scarecrow.the Witch, etc.
On the other side of the room, you could paint the trees that talk.
and on the other side paint the castle where Oz lives,
Your daughter's bed could be red and white checked gingham like Dorothy's dress. You could find a stuffed dog and name it Toto!
Have fun!

My daughter was Dorothy from about 3 to 7. She's now 13 and still has a warm place in her heart for the story. Depending on how much work you want to do, a painted mural of the yellow brick road is great. I have seen some wall paper patterns in that area. I don't recommend the flying monkey mobile above the bed. Too many nightmares.

It's about the Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
Perhaps the album cover could be a mural on one wall.

Yellow brick road comes to mind, maybe you could get a round rug for the floor and paint with fabric paints a spiral path.
Make her some ruby shoes, sew red sequins to a soft slip on pair and attach a big red bow to each.
Make her a tin man to hang or sit or stand out of ...umm... tin cans !
Get a large stuffed lion and a scruffy stuffed dog (Toto)
Make a scarecrow, thats easy, doesnt have to be human size, use her old clothes, surely you would have some shes grown out of.
Paint to top half of her room and ceiling blue and then sponge clouds about and stars, maybe glow in dark ones and dont forget the RAINBOW.
Big sunflowers and the like
sounds good, got for it......

What about going with blue and white gingham curtains like dorothys dress? They would like nice even if u used the yellow brick road idea. You might even be able to get a bed spread with the gingham. I love the wizard of oz, so this whole bedroom idea sounds wonderful. Good luck with it.

An Emerald City Mural of couse. Wicker baskets and little black stuffed puppy. Blue gingham comforter and curtains and a yellow rug leanig to her bed. I suggest leaving out the flying monkeys, but a good witch fairy is a little girl pleaser. BTW. top parenting award for feeding the imagination of a little girl.
