Best to do this between six-to-eight weeks. Several reasons for this: kitten is mature enough and able to separate from the mother; the earlier they have this done the more "kitten like" they remain as they grow older; prevents territorial behavior (spraying for example); and is an easier operation at that age. Some veterinarians will spay earlier than others. Generally kittens should be spayed between 4 and 6 months. The vet I work for will spay at 4 months or 4 pounds, whichever comes first.

When our cat first had her litter of kittens, there were three boys and two girls so we had asked the vet how old they had to be to get neutered/spayed and he said anywhere from 8-12 months old.

I foster kittens for our local shelter, they spay or neuter all cats before letting them be adopted. They will neuter when the kitten is 2lbs, usually about 2 months old.

Depends on which vet you go to. My vet will do it at 8lbs. or 3 months. Definitely don't wait for six because they could already be sexually active by then. Females can go into heat as early as four months.

Generally it is done around six months or 5 pounds, but sometimes vets do it earlier.
