Ignore those who've 'heard', I've been there alone a number of times and always had a great time. Thailand is not a dangerous country. I'd be more worried in London. Go alone, exercise a little common sense and you'll be fine and have a great time. You'll meet up with loads of people there. If you're flying into Bangkok then head to the Khao San Rd area and you'll meet a million people in the same position as yourself.

See Anna's question about someone to travel to Thailand with. Maybe you two could meet up:

Is the holiday all paid for? If so, ask another friend to go with you instead.
How long is it for? Are you gong for a few weeks and staying in a nice resort? If so, go alone. You'll make friends out there. Check the resort though, as you may have to pay a single supplement.
Are you going out there for a few months and finding work while out there? If so, cancel.

Either find another friend to go with, or cancel, get your money back, and go someother time. There will always be more oppertunities to travel. Its not safe to go on your own. There have been many incidents and your a woman aswell, plus, where is the fun of being on your own?! Wait a little bit, then go together and enjoy the sights with someone else!

It's safe as anywhere in the world. Don't listen to whom that only have heared stories BUT never been there. Many girls travel alone and they are more than fine. You would experience the new things and meet new friends here.

But if you don't feel free with traveling alone and scare of being lonely. Why don't you ask another friend of you?

Hope you enjoy your trip!!

I've travelled extensively on my own, but that was about ten years ago.

Although I am approaching middle age, I don't think I'd bother now. The world is a more dangerous place, in my opinion.

Part of me wants to say go for it, be adventurous, but going with others would dramatically reduce the chance of something going wrong.

Sometimes, you've just got to be sensible.

If a friend flaked out on me, I'd find someone else and still have a great time. If the reason the person dropped out was legitimate (death in family, etc.), I would cancel and stay with the friend.

Ive been all over the world travelling alone since i was in my late teens. all i have to say is the one thing i always regretted was not having a friend along to see all the interesting things and help me out when i needed it. If i were you see if you can get someone else to travel if not see if a travel agency can help you get a guide for the time your'e there.
