I mean, his/her religion shouldn't matter, they still committed a crime and religion has nothing to do with it. If they commit a crime in the name of religion,it still doesn't matter-its not the fault of the religion, the blame lies solely on the shoulders of the criminal.
So why do people say things like, "Atheists are immoral!"/"Christians make up most of the population in jail!"/"its the work of satan?"
This is all my opinion on the subject ,however. I just don't think that we should blame belief/disbelieve for commited crimes. What about you? I'd be more than happy to see your thoughts.

"yet there is a correlation between those that dont believe in the true and living God and those that commit crime orsin." Maurice H
Right. Those that don't believe commit sins less often. Or at least, they end up in jail less.
See, that's the problem. People agree with your points about leaving religion out of it and then have to get a jab in at the other guys.
I think that religion and tendency to commit crime are very relevent. It tells the "real story" about what's going on in that religion. And whether the religion is as moral as it likes to tell people.

It would be nice if it didn't make a huge story every time someone of or claimed to be a non-mainstream faith committed some crime. If you read the news it is rarely mentioned when a "Christian" commits a crime but it is always in the head line when a "Pagan", "Wiccan", "Satanist" or other non-mainstream does something horrible.
Many who claim to be of the pagan paths haven't even really read or studied what they claim to follow. Then there are those because they own a few books on the subjects are "horrible people" who must be "bad" because of them. It would be nice if it was different but unfortunately it is the scandal that sells the news not the truth that counts.

Whoa there Vinslave...the above question did not deserve that nasty outburst. She didn't ask an offensive or stupid question. Your reaction says more about you than the person asking the question.
As an answer to the question...I don't believe that most crimes are related to a person's religious leanings. I do believe some crimes are specifically committed in relation to a person's religious beliefs...for example a devout Christian will have bombed the abortion clinic specifically as a result of his religious beliefs. A Jew who robs a bank doesn't necessarily do that because he is Jewish. So you see religion and crime can be co-related.

Blaming bad people because of their religion further helps it's opposers to convince people that the given religion is bad. It really has nothing to do with religion, unless you're trying to convince people to hate it with you.

it doesn't matter at all what religion a criminal is - there are good and bad everywhere, thankfully mostly good although we hear too much about the bad!

No, the fault lies with the criminal. They did it, they should suffer, no one else.

I can judge no man for his sin. Did it ever occur to you, just because they are in prison, they are still human, and as worthy of God's love as you or I. If God forgives them, who are we to judge them? God bless.
