Hi, I'm also a newspaper delivery person and I like to let you know that given $50.00 is more than enough thanking her for her great leftie shot..loll...(i'm a rightie.lol. )
And I can tell you she DID appreciated the tip it might be a big different between having dinner or no dinner that night or food supply for the week or just to be able to have another full gas of gas til payday. And yes she worked very hard in all kinds of elements and the wear and tear on her own car and stil able to place the paper at the front door. She takes pride in her job. As so do I.
As for the thank you. We all should gets back into the habit of doing that so at least YOU are being appreciated too. I'm working on mine this week.I'm trying to get it out before its gets too long of a reply for a Christmas tip.
Gotta go ...lol..
Love and Peace in 2007 :-)

Yes. Your $50.00 gift was viewed as a tip for a service, not a gift exchange among friends. Obviously, you thought she'd done a great job and gone above and beyond and you wished to reward her for that service. And so you did - hopefully without any expectation of return at the time. Imagine if she felt she were under any kind of obligation to get gifts for everyone, or even her "favorite" customers on the route, should she have any. I think a thank you was definitely sufficient to express gratitude for your thoughtfulness.
OOPS...seems that I might have misunderstood the question. If you were asking if the $50.00 gift was enough (which other answers seem to reflect you may have been), rather than asking if the thank you card was enough ... I think $50.00 was quite a generous gift. It's almost $1.00 a week, and depending on the price of your newspaper, would probably equate to about the price you spend on one paper a week (just guessing by newspaper subscription costs in this area) and should have factored out to be a tip of at least 15 to 20 percent of whatever you pay for your annual subscription. Quite generous, but not necessarily "over the top" for a job well done.

Wow, very generous, $5 is the usual around here. I read somewhere where 15-20% of the year's newspaper bill is correct, but I do not know anyone who gives that much. Our local paper is a buck, take that times 6 papers a week, times 52 weeks in the year, comes out to just over $300 a year, and 10% of that is $30.
I'm glad she thanked you, that is rare these days It was really worth the $50, wasn't it? Just to get a thank you!

I'm not sure which "enough" you're asking about but $50.00 is a very generous gift from you and a thank you card is proper from her. Lucky you, my paper person can barely hit the driveway, especially when it's raining:{
Happy New Year to you , too.

Is what enough? $50 or a thank you note? I think $50 is too much. I dont even spend that on my best friend.
