My 9-month old kitten (indoors only, if that makes a difference) is always vomiting when I take her for rides in the car. She used to LOVE visiting relatives (approx. 40 minute drive, and we'd stay a few days). I would open her carrier and she'd just walk in and lie down, but since her spay she fights me when I try to get her to come in the car. Once she gets to the relatives' place, she's happy, but she doesn't want to get back in the car to come home. She also vomits almost every time. I once took her to New Hampshire (3 hour drive) on the family vacation and she had a BLAST! She slept the whole way there and back, and enjoyed her "holiday weekend." Now I can't even get out of the driveway without her getting sick.

Any ideas?

You could try getting her a totally different carrier, one with soft sides and a plushy cushion inside. Put it in the kitchen for a few days open - so she can explore it, before you use it. When you put her in the car, place her in the front passenger seat, so she is facing forwards. If she is lying sideways to the horizontal path of motion of the car, her inner ear could be disturbed, making her nauseous. Also, you might consider getting her some natural calming drops for her next trip. Ask your vet, or perhaps someone who answers your question here will recommend something.

your cat just doesn't trust being in the car, she doesn't want to go back to the vet. in time she'll forget and start likeing it again. (i've actually never know a cat that didn't hate car rides)
