One is as good as the other, but, unless you're looking for trouble, why drag around BOTH. The 1911 will solve any problem, if you really know how to use it, so what do you need a spray gun for?
Bottom line is, carry what you're most comfortable and familiar with. This question is like buying a new car, everybody has an opinion, and a lot of them are more or less right. In the end, it's up to YOU, since its' YOUR butt on the line! The WIERDEST thing out there is all the SHEEP who run around thinking the COPS are gonna protect them!

I am a firm believer in being prepared.
Buy you can over do it also.
If you live in that bad of area Move.
If neither gun is dependable take it to a gun smith.
Buy one that is, a cheap or malfunction gun will get you killed.
If you’re a bad shot and need the ammo capacity of 2 guns to do the job go back to the range and practice.
The Spray and Pray theory is Stupid and endangers innocent life.
I do hope those who subscribe to the Spray and Pray theory don’t involve me in their personal dispute, Good guy Bad guy it’s indifferent to me, when me or my loved ones are being shot at.
One shot one kill or leave them both at home.
You due understand, you may well have a Carry Conceal Permit, but the law will hold you responsible for any innocent person caught up in the line of fire.
One bad shoot can get you life in prison.
It’s a permit not a hunting license.
Please note I am not saying you’re a nut with a gun or guns.
But they are out there and some carry a Badge

Agree with old fuzz, would be better to have a HK UMP in .45 ACP as primary, that said, no. Your setup is extremely potent and admirable, as far as requiring a submachine gun as a primary is considered. I assume this is due to it's weight and maneuverability. I would prefer a shotgun in most situations, especially considering the wide variety of ammunition available (slug, buckshot, birdshot, bean bag, flachette, HE, frangible breach...) and reliability of the pump design. And a semi-auto rifle in .308 in non CQB situations; M1A, G3, or FAL. If forced to go 5.56 I would get a bullpup; FAMAS or FN2000

It's better to have the primary and back up in the same caliber, saves confusion and the neccessity of carrying two different kinds of ammo.
