Find something to do with your hands, knit, sew...anything. The habit of holding a ciggie is very hard to break;

make sure you pick a day to quit and stick to it, finish off the pack the night before so you start out fresh the next day. always have something to chew on, not lollies though i ended up at the dentist with the worst tooth ache, make sure this is really what you want and that your ready, no point in trying if your not 100 percent sure, and try to stay away from other smokers, i know that last one isn't easy but the smell of smoke only makes you want one more. I went cold turkey and i have never looked back its been 5 years now and i smoked for 15 years, if its what you really want you'll do it.

You said you didn't want to go to the doctor but i would. I quit smoking a couple months ago and I used Nicotrol. They're nicotine inhalers. They work great. I haven't had a cigarette since. Instead of a patch or gum, you inhale nicotine through a small inhaler kinda shaped like a cigarette. Nicotine is absorbed through the mouth and throat it will not enter your lungs. Then you ween yourself off these, like cigarettes. Every time, I'm stressing or having a drink and I really want a cigarette i hit my inhaler. It makes me feel like i just had a cigarette. Now I only use them when I'm drinking. They're kind of expensive though if your insurance doesn't cover them.

congrats on deciding to quit first i wanna tell you that its not good to suddenly stop smoking ( only if you really are a heavy smoker) smoking is like another bad habit like bitting your nails, or playing with something when your kind of nervous and all the other feelings... many people chew gum maybe it would help you, also if you have the time and money seek professional help therefore you can learn and know faster on quitting it. try jogging and exercises it would really help you realize how unfit your body is because of smoking.. i hope this kinda helps
Kdo ;)

Join a gym. Nothing influences diet/smoking more than working to improve your health. When you've been putting in 3 or 4 hours per week working hard in the gym you won't want to ruin it with a cigarette or fattening food.

My husband quit in Sept. He used the patch, and did great. There is nothing wrong with going cold turkey, but in some ways you are making it harder on yourself than you need to. There are so many products available to help make is easier.

Sure sometimes you have a sower throat, cough, sneeze, mucuses, fever, flu. During your illness, voluntary you quitted smoking. And when you got recovered you started smoking again. Do you remember how the first cigarette tasted? No taste at all. So, when I decided to quit smoking, I promised to my self that I wouldn't ever again light that first cigarette that didn't gave me any pleasure at all. If you don't light that first one, you would have quited.

lock yourself in the bathroom, bedroom, etc... and ahem, take care of yourself. I had a friend who did that and she totally broke the habit plus she ended up with a happier husband if you know what I mean.
