Putting a contact in your mouth before putting it in could potentially blind you! Not only are you putting the germs from your mouth into the very delicate eye but you are also adding micro-sized pieces of food which will irritate your eyes further.
If you have dry eyes you may find contacts a problems, I could not use them for that reason despite trying various brands and types;

I've been wearing contacts for over five years now and I love them. ACUVUE is the best brand I have tried. Get the disposable kind since you are new to them so that way if you don't like them you wont be out big bucks. A box of six are around 20 bucks. They also have an ACUVUE oasis that are for dry eyes. And as far as the whole putting them in your mouth.....gross! The average mouth has tons of germs. I always carry solution and drops with me everywhere I go. Good luck!

IYour eye doctor will be able to tell you the best choice of contacts for a person with dry eyes. Usually with contacts you can't tell that they are in at all..but sometimes dust particles and other things get on them and can irritate your eye, it doesn't really hurt but it can get annoying, to fix it just put some eye drops in your eye and that should remove whatever is stuck to your contact. Your friends put the contacts in their mouth to keep it moist, if contacts dry up they can easily 'crack' or rip and be ruined. I suggest carrying a contact case in your pocket or purse at all times though because it would be very unfortunate to swallow a contact!
Word of warning: When I first got my contacts I had to put them in myself before I was allowed to go home (although I'm not sure you'll be forced to do the same thing), and it took me nearly 45 minutes to finally get them in! It's NOT easy at first so don't worry if you can't get them in right away...it just takes practice and putting them in is a piece of cake for me now..Good luck!

The first time you put contacts in they will be extremely uncomfortable (I wanted to pull them out straight away). The optometrist said that would feel like that until your eyes got used to them being there. It didn't take very long but the first time you put them in they feel terrible. Now I can't even feel they're in.
As to the type it depends on your eyes. My optometrist recommended Activue 2 for me and apart for them feeling uncomfortable initially, I have had no problems.
If you have dry eyes, always carry eye drops with you (I do this). Its a pain to sometimes remember but a lot safer than ending up with an infection in your eye!

I love my contacts. As for price I use contacts that you don't throw away for about 6 months. They seem to work well and my eyes don't get dry. Putting contacts in your mouth is not a good idea...but if you are in a pinch and there is no solution aroud it is better than putting them in water. Saliva is the same pH as contact soln. Water is not and if you put contacts out of water in your eye it'll hurt.

Ewwww--I just read about people using spit to wet their lenses. Your mouth is full of bacteria, but tears have antibacterial properties, so it's not...too bad. But they do that because they don't have wetting solution or cleaning solution. Carry a little bottle of it with you to keep your peepers spit-free.
I don't personally have contacts--I'm nearsighted and I have astigmatism, and my eye dr. said contacts are available for my condition, but I'd probably prefer glasses. So I wear glasses, and I'm pretty happy with them. The type depends on your vision condition, your eyeball size, the curve of your eyeball...lots of things. You'll probably have to take it up with your eye dr.
But lots of people wear contacts, and many say that they barely notice them except when they take them in or out or if they get dry. Be sure to discuss your dry eyes with your dr. in case it might affect your contact choice.

eww don't put your contacts in your mouth!
your mouth has bacteria. so contacts will transfer bacteria to your eyes if you do this.
Now if you are looking to get a cornea transplant surgery, go for it!
