Dont get grossed out. I know exactly how you feel. For one, I would make an appt. to see if you have strep or tonsilitis.

Now as for what to do in he meantime. No more OJ. If you can get your hands on some, get some aloe vera leaves. Yes the succulent plant. Using a peeler, remove the skin, and pointy parts. Now with the insides of the leaf, smash it up adding water to the mix. Make it a consistency that you can drink. It has no flavor, so dont get grossed out. But drink that about an hour before you sing and it will help alot. Also, take motrin to reduce the swelling. Other than that, go see a doctor to make sure you dont have any medical issues.

Keep sipping on nice hot tea. I recommend a mint tea. It really soothes my throat whenever I'm feeling a little scratchy (like after a week of caroling five hours a day!). Honey is usually a good addition to it. If you can't get any tea, at least eat peppermints.

If it's chronic, you might want to go to a doctor (as much as I'm sure you don't want to do that!) If you have strep throat, it's better to get it early than spend a week in silence and croaks.

Don't talk. NEVER whisper! NEVER! It puts more stress on your vocal folds than talking or singing. Write notes if you must.

Do you have any acid reflux issues? That can cause problems. If that's the case (and you'll need to see a dr. about it), you can often avoid trigger foods (for example, mine are tomato products, all squash, cucumbers, peppers...I have a bunch) and also lift the head of your bed (I used concrete blocks) to elevate the bed and keep them rogue juices down in your stomach.

Skip the OJ. It's not gonna help. And NO dairy products--that's good advice. Warm liquids. REST!!!!!!

No dairy, no citrus drinks, no carbonated beverages. Drink plenty of water and tea with honey. Limit your singing to official practices and lessons. Obviously no smoking. Try to get a full night's sleep and that should do it. Keep your throat warm, keep a scarf on if you can.
