Point to mommys belly and say theres a baby in there. In a little while the baby will come out and you will have a new brother or sister. They may or may not understand at such a young age so keep it as simple as possible.

Probably their understanding is very limited but I think it would be a good idea to get some sort of life size like doll and show the 1 yr old how to "love the baby" and just show gentleness. I think it's good for any 1 yr old to see. I don't think it's too young to encourage nurturing behaviors.

You can't explain it you just show them when the baby comes. They are to young to understand where they come from. So just give the baby a doll and show the baby to take care of it and be nice to it so that when the baby comes they will associate the doll to the new baby.

You don't. I think your 1 year old is too young to understand.
Wow - good luck. Maybe you can get some sleep in another year or two....

If they can talk ask them if they want a new brother or sister and if they say yes, say good! we'll be getting one soon.
if they say no, wait a week and explain that you and "daddy" decided that theyw ere going to be getting a new brother or sister and they would be the big brother/sister

you really can't but when the little one comes (s)he wil understand when you bring home the new bundle. but when the 1yr old gives you the look of don't you love me anymore? hug and cuddle until they are smiling and want off your lap. been there done that. that's the best way it worked for me

Don't bother. That would be like trying to teach a pig to sing. Don't do it.
It only wastes your time plus, it annoys the pig.
1 yo is too young to even care about that.

leave out the detail. just let them know they will be a big brother/sister. I did this with my oldest. they are now 4 and 5.

well, my daughter was 1.5 y/o. i sat her down and told her mommy was gonna have a baby and pointed to my tummy. she didn't really understand and than we sat down with a book about pregnancy and i showed her a picture of a mommy and a baby, and she knew right away that it was a baby! that is how i introduced my daughter to her "new brother"
