depends on the number of cars manufactured with special futures and identity ,how many types of models has been manufactured. in between the years..and total number of cars remain on the market who are collectibles by the collectors , some cars will never make a classic ,until there is only a few left on the market, and some become classics within 10 to 25 years, ie E type was called a classic after only 15 years , a Austin metro has been around for over 30 years and never been called a classic car yet,
Cars with special looks type of materials used , and kinds of special functions it has ,would make a classic ..rather then the ones that are produced in mass quantity with no identity,

A CCCA Classic is a "fine" or "distinctive" automobile, either American or foreign built, produced between 1925 and 1948. Generally, a Classic was high-priced when new and was built in limited quantities. Other factors, including engine displacement, custom coachwork and luxury accessories, such as power brakes, power clutch, and "one-shot" or automatic lubrication systems, help determine whether a car is considered to be a Classic.

To qualify as a classic car especially regarding classic tax the vehicle must have been built and registered before 1973.

Hello Ian ,classics are usually 20 yrs.old, but there is no hard rule, historic vehicles (road tax exempt)have to be registered before Jan. 1972. A classic is really up to it`s owner to say as no law or ruling exist to say otherwise, find the owners club for your vehicle and use their insurance to get classic rates but you won`t get no claims bonus on it ,you could try www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/ 01277 206 911, my 1938 Austin is with them through the club, £50.00 fully comp.John Boy.

The number seems to be 25 years old or older for historic insurance, as for historic tags well there are two (2) qualifications in the state of Maryland, those being 25 years old or older or out of manufacture.
