I'm taking a stab in the dark, but it's possible your friend's dog is have a false pregnacy. We had a boxer that did this all the time when I was growing up.
What causes it? That's hard to say. Could be cycsts on the ovaries (as our dog had) or a number of other things. In the end, we spayed our dog. Stopped the problem.
You gave your friend the right advice. They should take the dog to their vet.
Good luck!

Milk means pregnancy. It COULD be false pregnancy, but most likely it is not. Of course the vet can only accurately diagnose this. Her owner should know if she's been around unneutered males... or just get her dog spayed. Now, is it in all the nipples? because you could be mistaking pus for milk... in which case she would have mastitis, but again this is unlikely. Watch for signs of he getting "fatter" between the base of her ribs and her back legs. That area would be getting larger if she's pregnant. In addition, milk is only produced near the end of pregnancy, so if she is pregnant you'll have little puppies running around within a few weeks to a month, I'm not incredibly well versed in the timeline of dachund pregnancies. Good luck, and please see a vet, for the dog and her maybe-babies' sakes. :)

The dog is 1) pregnant, 2) was pregnant and either lost the litter or had them and the owner doesn't know it, or 3) is having a pseudo pregnancy. All 3 scenarios require a trip to the vet.
If it was just one nipple and not all of them you may have to consider some infection (yeah it can be a milky liquid) but it would be odd for all nipples to get infected in the same way/same time.

She is either pregnant or having a false pregnancy. It is fairly common for dogs to go through a false pregnancy after the come into heat. They will get milk, gain weight, claim toys as their puppies, and sometimes even nest and act like they are going through labor. If she is pregnant, she will probably be having a litter of puppies in the next day or two.

If she has recently been in season (heat) she could be pregnant or even having a false pregnancy. I would take her to the vet and see if she accidentally got bred. If it turns out to be a false pregnancy they will just have to wait it out.

The two reason for a female to produce milk are pregnancy, or false pregnacy. advise your frined to seek a veterinary oppinion as soon as is convenient for her, but not to wait over 65 days as if the female is pregnant then to ensur the health of the puppies their are things that she should do.
