Trying to figure out what has been causing my gallstone attacks, I have only had 2 attacks so far in 3 months. I went to the hospital on the first attack, because wasn't sure what it was. Once diagnosed with gallstones, should I have to return to the hospital each time I have an attack. As I have noticed that they dont really do much for you at the hospital, other than pain medication.

Anything can cause a gall stone attack (biliary colic), but fatty food is more apt to than other foods. Did you put cream (high fat) in your coffee. If you are having attacks, your best bet is to get you gall bladder removed surgically.

Nonsurgical alternatives include, staying on a low fat diet indefinitely can suppress symptoms for long periods of time. However, most of us can't maintain that strict of diet indefinitely and will have problems again. It is likely that sooner or later your symptoms will progress to the point that even low fat foods will trigger them.

Another nonsurgical alternative is to use oral dissolution agents, prescription medicines which dissolve the stones. You must take them 6 months to a year typically. They work a little better than half the time. The problem is that if you are healthy you will likely live long enough to see them come back.

Other treatments like lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar etc., do not work.

Usually it is "fatty" foods that cause gallstone attacks. But, having had gallstones myself, I would recomend that you just have your gallbladder removed. It's a really simple surgery and its a lot less painful than dealing with the stones. Plus you need to be careful if you have gallstones because if you let them go for too long, they can cause other problems with your digestive tract.
