My dog does that to but the vet said that it is only a nervous habit.

I have a 3 year old Pug and she licks her bed too. She also licks my Boxers back all the time. As far as i can tell she just likes to lick! Better than chewing i guess. And she seems to do it after she has a drink. Strange..i wish i could ask these dog questions some days to find out exactly what goes though their heads!

As long as she isnt licking something that will come off and get in her mouth or down her throat. You can buy her a KONG toy and fill it with peanut butter and let her lick that all day long if she likes licking.

We might never know why they do this.

my dog chews some of her bones on her bed. Because of this the oils get into the fabric and she likes to try and lick off the flavour.

Has she gotten her nails clipped lately? She might be licking due to the fact they are too long and want clipping or due to the fact she simply had them clipped and simply irritated a little. Have you spread open her paws to check between her 'toes'? Appear inbetween is it very crimson and i would suspected she can be licking seeing that they itched....Does it look to be painfulI. If not give her some benedryl and put Neosporin on for a couple of days...Additionally slowly chang her food regimen.Or take her to the vet they could given her a shot of cortisone and normally antibiotics. It may be 'chapped' dermis...Made worse with the aid of her licking. Might be arthritus or an injury. They lick the place they harm had arthritus (moderate) were she licked is her paws is there hardly ever any hair on the tops of them. Referred to as"Baldy Paws".Would want arthritus medicine. Might be hypersensitivity...To whatever for your carpet or your yard.

Since dogs have an exceptional sense of smell, I would say the dog is smelling something it likes on the fabric.

my dog licks the covers on the bed..its no biggie...i think its just one of their things they do..maybe they like the texture of the fabric kinda like the other dog in the entry above about the velvet i think its a texture thing.

I have a cocker spaniel and he does that too! I had a cushion cover with velvet flowers on it and within a week he had totally licked the velvet off! Animals do the funniest things - bless em!

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.
