The skin on my face gets very dry during the winter. Is there a product or anything around the house that can make it smoother and softer and not so flaky?

I would use all those ideas, plus an exfoliater at least once a week to get the dead skin off and use a good facial moisturizer for daily use. Put it on while your face is still damp to seal in the moisture from the water, which is the best of all moisturizers. It's just hard to keep it from evaporating off your skin.

Almay makes wonderful products. I use the daily moisturizer and the night time concentrate. The daily is $8-$10 and the night time concentrate is $16-$20. They work great and do not leave your skin oily or flaky, and they are great for sensitive skin like mine. You can get Almay products at any drug store, Wal Mart, Fred Meyers, etc.
Good luck.

I have the same problem. The best thing you can do is use a water softener. You can get one at Lowe's for about $300. I don't know how much you will have to pay a plumber to install it. There are ones that cost about $2000. They last 20 years. The $300 last 5 years. Do the math.

Vitamin E. You can buy the capsules at any pharmacy. Just break one open and rub into the dry areas before you go to bed. Also use an exfoliating face scrub twice a week, any more than that will make your face red and irritated.

I use vaseline every night and it works especially when it is really bad. After about two to three days i use baby lotion since vaseline feels icky when i have it on to sleep. Also, it doesn't cost as much.
