It says, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
Verse 2 then jumps to a time when the earth was void and without form.
The Hebrew word for without form Tohu seems to imply a waste or desolation.
It is my belief that God doesn't give us the information of the time span or what went on between verse 1 and verse 2, he simply explains to us about his recreating a new heaven and a new earth, much in the same way he tells us in Peter
II Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up
and he makes a new one:
:
Rev 21:1
21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
I don't know if Satan had a time on this earth before Genesis verse 2 and it had to be destroyed, much as the earth next time will wobble to and fro like a top and burn with fire. God deemed not to elaborate on that to us.
According to the Hebrew calendar we are in the year 5767.
One thing I do find very interest is that God had green grass and trees growing before he even created the sun and the moon.
Genesis chapter 1 is much much deeper than the creation account that you see on the surface.
It speaks of seperating the light from the darkness and the greater light and the lesser light and the stars which have biblical meanings which I will not elaborate on at this time.
Hope that helps :)

The Bible has about 6000 or so years passing after Adam was kicked out the the garden of Eden. So, then, how long was Adam in the garden? Some say millions and millions of years before he finally ate the forbidden fruit. The amount of time Adam was in the Garden before he was cast out is unknown. Also, Genesis states that God took "matter unorganized" and put it together to make this world. How old is that matter? What was contained in that matter? No one knows. So, how old is the world? Probably many billions of years old.

According to Ussher in a famous publication, the bible says the earth is around 4000 years old.
Of course, people who know their science laugh at such a statement. That is why we have science books in addition to religion books.

Taken literally, I'd say that the Bible says that the earth is currently no older than 4,000-10,000 years.
I don't believe that's the case, but I'm answering the way I would have when I was a Christian.

Dear Sir,
According to the Bible, the world was created in 11,013 B.C. So, in actuality the world is now 13, 016 years old. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

The Bible doesn't say. I hope you are intelligent enough not to be swayed by people who give you an exact date. None exists.
