How can I dump him nicely?

So theres this guy and we've been friends for at least a year and he just recently asked me out like 2 weeks and 6 days ago. I liked him at the time but now I'm starting to realize that I don't really feel for him anymore. I feel so bad because he's in my lunch and in my geometry class. Our first semester is ending in 2 weeks and then we go to our new classes. I don't know when to dump him slowly and nicely, please help me I don't know what to do here! And even when I dump him he'll still be there because me and my friend sami hang with him almost every day. Us 3 have been friends for a year. But me and sami go back since like 7th grade. So I really don't know what to do I feel really bad that I don't like him and I don't know how he'll handle it. HELP!!!

how should I dump him? Like online or in person? I don't know how or when or I don't know! It's driving me crazy! I feel so bad for him now =[

A "nice" breakup is an oxymoron. However, if you try to show him the respect he deserves, you can always hope for a "fair" breakup.

A few rules of thumb:
1. Don't breakup using IM, email, text messaging, or a friend as a go-between. To do so is cowardly and cruel. Face to face is best, but a telephone breakup is acceptable.
2. Don't lie to him, but don't intentionally hurt his feelings either. Tell him that you're not getting as much out of the relationship as you originally had and that you'd like to move on.
3. Don't be hateful to him if he reacts with anger of sadness. Stay calm and let him say what he needs to say. He's bound to feel hurt, insulted, and rejected and to want to hurt and insult you, too. If he criticizes you in anger, remember that it's the pain speaking, not the friend you've known for three years.
4. If you wish to maintain your friendship, give him some space, and ask him to do so as well, but don't completely abandon him. It's probably best to try to have other friends around when you see him in the future, at least for a while.
5. Don't say anything you'll regret later.
6. Don't breakup with him in public, but don't do it somewhere where you'll be completely alone. It's doubtful he'd do anything crazy or violent, but if things start to go that way, be prepared to leave a.s.a.p.
7. Sooner is better than later. The longer you put this off, the more frantic you'll get, and the worse the breakup will be.

You need to be honest with him and tell him that you liked him better as a friend. Let him know that you really care about him and his feelings, but that you don't feel for him in a boyfriend kind of way. Tell him that you wanted to be honest with him because you respect him and would like to remain friends with him.

Tell him something to the effect of 'I dont want to ruin our friendship by dating you'.
I feel that our friendship is very special and think that it could be easily ruined by any more dating.
