Varies. Septic shock has a very high mortality rate (around 50%).

In those who do survive, length of hospital stay depends on the cause, progression, response to treatment in the ICU, and also what damage's been done. Septic shock puts a HUGE amount of stress on many of the body's organ systems, and cans cause damage to e.g. kidneys, brain, heart etc. So, there's not really a single answer for that.

But I'd say you would measure the length of hospital stay in weeks... just ballparking it here.

Hope this helps.

I had a hip revision surgery..went to rehab 6 days..was leaking a lot of brown fluid from incision..nobody said anything,5 days later I collapsed in septic shock..ICU could not keep blood pressure up, dr. told me I probably would not see the sun rise, asked if I wanted to talk to a preacher,if my heart stopped did I want cpr(my daughter was in the room..didn't like that)they put a line in my neck going into my heart, mom said about 2 am there were 5 I.V.bags flowing at once, when my heart started to fail the medicine put thru the line saved me(I was out for the later..mom was there) once my blood pressure was up..back to surgery to open up hip and remove all infected flesh and metal parts..then 8 weeks of I.V. antibodics and oxygen,I guess from what I was told..every blood vessel in my body expanded..the little ones popped open..lost ability to speak, could not breath(refused a vent)..was told I lost a couple million little blood vessels in my brain...that was may of 2012 and I am still trying to recover..but dr said I will never be the same..that is my septic shock
