apparently the people who have previously answered have never experinced new orleans i think the best way ( and my hubby and i have been doing it he is from new orleans and his kids still live there) is go and drive around untill you see somebody working on there place get out of the car indroduce your self and say i got nothing better to do than help where should we start... we started this after we finished the repairs to my step sons house a neighbor a few doors down was having a hard time he is elderly and alone so we all ( 6 adults 2 kids) went over with the extra supplies we had and we finished his place in less than 3 weeks..we have put in countless hours with city park and other public recation areas that were at that point getting nothing...there has been so much money donated but i have yet to meet anyone whos gotten any and quite frankly i am exhausted and most of the locals are suffering from some type of storm related stress even if they won't admit it..at this point we go to new orleans twice a month at first we both took leave from work and spent 3 months trying to restore order to his childrens lives ( but there really not kids just young adult 20 ,22,23)rebuild there homes and locate jobs for them with all that under our belt we still could not help our selves when we'd drive through a once populated area only to see 1 family maybe 2 on a street trying to clean it up or out and sometimes trying to rebuild thats how it started for us seeing the lonley old man trying to rebuild on his own..we have been doing this for 8 months now and we can only do so much maybe if others did the same our beautiful magical enchanting new orleans will be the city she once was...

Moreover, how is New Orleans going to pitch in on the crimewave that hit neighboring major cities like Houston when they took in their welfare check living self entitled refugees?

We've given tons of money from the government, and tons of money from non-government charities. Fine, we're done.

Who says it should be rebuilt? Below sea level, next to the sea??

They should move on. Not our fault.

Some say we should bulldoze all of it and make a national park of the land....

Amen, Eric M. If you don't want it to happen again, the only answer is to move.
