How can you decide if a vet will be good to your animal and do a proper checkup without making multiple appointments with different clinics? The vet my mom uses *and i have so far had to use, as it is her money and either way, i have no car* sucks horribly. Didn't even freaking weaigh my puppy, and two days after the "checkup" I noticed the lump that I had assumed was a slightly missplaced microchip grow emmensly, so now I have an excuse to show the old hag that birthed me what a vet really should do. Yes, the lump *very small, like a grain of rice* was pressent at the exam.

Can anyone reccomend a good vet in the general area of Lake City/Gainseville Fl? If not, how can I decide which one will be best?

Thank y'all.

Ask your friends/acquaintances that have pets whether or not they would recommend their vet. If they give you a weird look or anything, take that to mean that they don't really care about their animal enough to care whether or not it gets proper care or that they have never really thought about it. If someones gives an emphatic "yes", then give it a try. Also, you can get a pretty good sense when you walk in the door. Typically things like cleanliness and friendliness are more than just "niceties". They indicate that the doctors at that particular facility feel that the incoming pets are patients and not just paychecks.

I LOVE my vet and would definitely recommend them to anyone and everyone. Unfortunately I don't even live in the same time zone as you...so it doesn't do you any good. But follow you instincts. If you walk in the clinic and don't get a "good feeling", walk back out and keep trying until you do. It doesn't cost you anything to just walk in. You can also "visit" a few and talk to the other people before you make an appointment for your pet. It might eat up a half hour of your time, but it will give you a lot of reassurance when its time to trust them to help you little guy.

The best way to find a good vet is mostly by word of mouth. You can try asking your friends who have pets where they take their dogs/cats vet wise.

The vet I take my dog to was the vet that my boyfriend's family takes their dog to. The vet is a really good vet. The reason I determined that was the apperance of the clinic (including the exam rooms), how informative the staff is, how informative the vet is during the procedures, how they handle my dog when they examed her, how knowledgeable they are to the questions I ask, and the fact they have an online portal that I can access that pulls up my dog's records (vaccinations, medicines, appointments that are schedule, as well as helpful tips to help care for your dog).

Also they are AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) acredited.

I have friends with dogs and i talked with them for a recommendation. I had several recommend the same vet and he was very highly regarded. What prompted me to change was that I had a vet I thought was okay but kept going in again and again with an ear problem for my dog. No solution. Talked with a friend and she recommended her vet as a great one (and several other people said the same thing). He's been able to diagnose issues that are very difficult to determine. He caught my friend's dog's blasto before it got very far and probably saved her life. So i switched vets, found out my previous one was a hack and I wasted hundreds of dollars on it. The new vet properly diagnosed my dog's problem and finally got her ear problem under control. There really is a big difference in vets and their abilities. Sorry, I don't know anyone in the Gainesville area for you.

Call and talk to them, I live in Texas and when I still lived in my home town my vet that my family had used ever since I could remember did said something that I knew was wrong and so I consulted another vet (the only other one in town) and also asked for a referral from vet # 2 and so I called him he was more than happy to answer any questions that I had and was shocked at how my family vet had treated me. I decided to use him because he didn't mind answering my questions no matter how long it took, that is what sold me.

Okay first you need to just be nice, starting with the woman who decided to give you life and allows you to live with her, and pays your bills. Clearly your life would be much more difficult with out her. Then ask all your friends who have pets who they use. If this does not yield a good Vet, would try asking the local dog trainers, groomers, and kennels. These people will have had lots of experience with the local clinics.

All I have to say is I am glad you are not my child and I sure am glad that my children are not as ignorant and self centered as you apparently are. I had felt sorry for you but now I see you are just a spoiled brat who wants her way at all times.
It seems your mother does a lot for you even paying vet bills for the dog you wanted so badly. You still live with "the old hag that birthed you" and since you have such a need to speak about your mother that way and have no appreciation for what she does for you maybe you should move out now while you still know everything!!!!!

Best thing to do is to ask around. When you see someone in your neighborhood walking their dog, or at the pet store ask about their vet. Also call around to some shelters and ask them for their opinions..I have a great vet, and always recommend her to anyone who asks about who I go to. Most people will give you their honest opinion, and not send you and your dog into harms way.

Word of mouth. You should never worry about wasting time when you're making a decision about your vet.
Sorry I can't give you any personal reccs about a vet in that area-I'd call humane societies to see who they reccomend.

Sorry buddy, you are trouble in the making and I wouldn't really want you as a client so I couldn't really recommend a vet to you.

Change the tude dude, for your dog's sake. And, ditch the chip on your shoulder as far as mom goes, it makes you look like a child.
